Use:
Actions or events that happened in the past. Those actions begin and ended in
the past
- It rained yesterday
- He worked until 7 p.m. last night
- They played baseball two days ago.
Expressions:
Spelling rules:
Add “ed” at the end of the regular verb
Work worked
Jump jumped
If the verb ends in “e” add only the “d”
Create created
If the verb ends in consonant + “y” eliminate it and add “ied”
Study studied
If the verb ends in consonant + vowel + consonant, double the last
consonant and add “ed” at the end. (Remember that it is only if the accent is at
the end or if it is a one syllable word)
Stop stopped
Top topped
Prefer Preferred
Do not double the last letter if the verb ends in w, x or y

Structure:
Positive sentences: Subject + verb in the past (ed) + …….
I studied last night
He cooked dinner yesterday
Negative sentences: Subject + auxiliary (did) + not + base form of the verb +
I didn’t study last night
He did not cook dinner yesterday
Questions: Auxiliary (did) + subject + base form of the verb
Did you study last night? Yes, I did/No, I didn´t
Did he cook dinner last night? Yes, he did/No, he didn´t
