Assignment Brief and Guidance:( Scenario)

Scenario

You have been offered your first job as a junior engineer in a local company that specializes
in repairing domestic electronic equipment. As part of your new role the owner would like to
provide opportunities for you to develop your skills and knowledge of electronic devices and
circuits.
They would like you use a range of test equipment and software to investigate commonly
used analogue electronic devices and the type of circuits in which they are used. They have
asked you to determine the operational characteristics of amplifier circuits and investigate
the types and effects of feedback on an amplifier’s performance.

Task 1

1- The figure 1 shows a non-inverting summer which is performed using five

VO
complementary resistors. The gain is specified to be 15 and R 3=R 4=1 kΩ.
V +¿ ¿
Describe the function of this circuit by specifying R1 , R 2 ,∧RF for an output voltage
given by vO =3 v I 1+ 2 v I 2.

- Figure 1 : Non inverting summer circuit -

2- Examine the different performance characteristics of the following circuit based on an
ideal operational amplifier by answering to the following questions:

c- Determine the gain in decibel G v and sketch and label the Bode magnitude plot.

3- Explain, by experimental tests, the results obtained of the circuit illustrated in Figure
1. In this experiment you will:

• Equipment and Materials Required:

- Power Supply ± 12V
- Digital Multi-meter
- Oscilloscope
- Function Generator
- Integrated circuit TLO71 or equivalent
- Obtained values of the resistors.

4- Simulate the studied circuit of Figure 1 on LTspice software and assess the results
obtained from the application of practical and virtual tests.

Task 2
The circuit illustrated in Figure 3 is performed using two operational amplifiers
assumed ideal. You are asked to give answers to the following four points:

- Figure 3 : Cascade amplifiers circuit -

1- Examine the type of feedback available in the circuit of Figure 3 and their effect on
the amplifier’s performance.

2- Describe the circuit of Figure 3 by giving the expression of v s as a function of v1 and

v 2.

3- Perform practical tests to show the effect of feedback on the Figure 3 amplifier’s
performance. In this experiment you will:

• Equipment and Materials Required:

- Power Supply ± 12V
- Digital Multi-meter
- Oscilloscope
- Function Generator
- Integrated circuit LM358 or equivalent
- Resistors: at your choice.

4- Simulate the studied circuit of Figure 3 on LTspice software and evaluate the
results of practical and virtual tests in order to analyse the effect of feedback on the
performance.
