Semester -02 Electric Drives

Module -1
1.) What are the different classes of motor duty ? Explain a) continuous duty with
intermittent periodic loading. b) continuous duty with starting and braking?
2.) Explain the criteria for selection of drive.
3.) Derive the thermal model of heating.
4.) The motor operates on a periodic duty cycle in which it is clutched to its load for 10
mins and declutched to run on o load for 20 mins. Minimum temperature rises 40ᵒC.
Heating and cooling time constants are equal and have a value of 60 mins. When load
is declutched continuously temperature rises 15ᵒC. a.) During the duty period, at what
maximum temperature motor is running? b) When load is clutched continuously, what
is the steady state temperature?

resistance to be placed in armature. b.) Braking torque c.) Torque when speed has
fallen to zero.
3.) Derive transient analysis of separately excited motor with armature control. Draw
transient response characteristics graph of DC separately excited motor during starting

2.) State different methods of voltage fed inverter control. Explain open loop volts/Hz
control with block diagram.
3.) Explain current controlled voltage fed inverter drive along with block diagram and
characteristics curve.
