4.7 The student will investigate and understand the organization of the solar system. Key
Learning Objective concepts include
a) the planets in the solar system;
b) the order of the planets in the solar system; and
c) the relative sizes of the planets.
4.8 The student will investigate and understand the relationships among Earth, the moon,
and the sun. Key concepts include
a) the motions of Earth, the moon, and the sun;
b) the causes for Earth’s seasons;
c) the causes for the phases of the moon;
d) the relative size, position, age, and makeup of Earth, the moon, and the sun; and
e) historical contributions in understanding the Earth-moon-sun system.
Pedagogy

Online Activity In this activity, the students will be learning about the solar
system and where things are in the sky. The students will go to
google sky and look around for a minute to see just how it
looks, then they will select planets, comets, asteroids, or
anything that interests them at the time to research. Doing this
will allow the student to click on each planet, comet, or
selected highlight. The student will then create a presentation
with voice over to explain their favorite part of the simulation
and have at least 4 fun facts about what they chose to look
further into. During all of this, the teacher will have available
office hours for any questions and will allow for the students to
choose their desired method of presentation and the teacher
will provide some examples for the students to reference if
they are having trouble and it is outside of office hours. After
the students are finished with their presentation, they will
submit to the teacher to review and the teacher will give the
go ahead to post on a class discussion board. Once they have
done so, they will get the chance to learn what their peers
have found interesting.
