MediaSwift MIB Guide vii
Chapter 1: Overview
This guide outlines and explains the SNMP fields that are available in the MediaSwift MIB.
In the following sections, “incoming” refers to traffic flowing into the MediaSwift, and “outgoing”
refers to traffic flowing out of the MediaSwift.
Incoming traffic might be originating either from the world or from subscribers. Outgoing traffic
might be destined either for the world or for subscribers. Outgoing traffic includes both incoming
traffic that is being forwarded as well as data that is being served from the cache.
All bandwidth statistics are specified in bits per second (bps). All packet statistics are specified in
packets per second (pps).
NOTE All statistics begin at 0 from when the system comes on line (in other words,
counting from system uptime).

the underlying operating system does not
distinguish text pages from other uses of

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION

ssCpuRawUserCe1 The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent

processing user-level code. On a multi-
processor system, the 'ssCpuRaw*' counters
are cumulative over all CPUs, so their sum will
typically be N*100 (for N processors).

ssCpuRawNiceCe1 The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent

processing reduced-priority code. This object
will not be implemented on hosts where the
underlying operating system does not measure
this particular CPU metric. On a multi-
processor system, the 'ssCpuRaw*' counters
are cumulative over all CPUs, so their sum will
typically be N*100 (for N processors).

ssCpuRawSystemCe1 The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent

processing system-level code. On a multi-
processor system, the 'ssCpuRaw*' counters
are cumulative over all CPUs, so their sum will
typically be N*100 (for N processors). This
object may sometimes be implemented as the
combination of the 'ssCpuRawWait(54)' and
'ssCpuRawKernel(55)' counters, so care must
be taken when summing the overall raw
counters.

ssCpuRawIdleCe1 The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent

idle. On a multi-processor system, the
'ssCpuRaw*' counters are cumulative over all
CPUs, so their sum will typically be N*100
(for N processors).

ssCpuRawWaitCe1 The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent

waiting for IO. This object will not be
implemented on hosts where the underlying
operating system does not measure this

included within the 'ssCpuRawSystem(52)'
counter. On a multi-processor system, the
'ssCpuRaw*' counters are cumulative over all
CPUs, so their sum will typically be N*100
(for N processors).

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION

ssCpuRawKernelCe1 The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent

processing kernel-level code. This object will
not be implemented on hosts where the
underlying operating system does not measure
this particular CPU metric. This time may also
be included within the 'ssCpuRawSystem(52)'
counter. On a multi-processor system, the
'ssCpuRaw*' counters are cumulative over all
CPUs, so their sum will typically be N*100
(for N processors).

ssCpuRawInterruptCe1 The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent

processing hardware interrupts. This object
will not be implemented on hosts where the
underlying operating system does not measure
this particular CPU metric. On a multi-

are cumulative over all CPUs, so their sum will
typically be N*100 (for N processors).

are cumulative over all CPUs, so their sum will
typically be N*100 (for N processors).

Network Interfaces
hardware  ifStatusCacheEngines  ifStatusTable

The interfaces status table outlines the information associated with each network
interface in each Cache Engine. A partial view of this table is shown below:

Figure 3: Sample view of the Network Interfaces table

The following table outlines all table entries. This table is a collection of interface
statuses indexed by blade and interface index:
hardware  ifStatusCacheEngines  ifStatusTable 
ifStatusEntry

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION

ifBladeIndex The Cache Engine in which this interface is

installed.

ifIndex A unique value for each interface. Its value

ranges between 1 and the value of ifNumber.
The value for each interface must remain
constant at least from one re-initialization of
the entity's network management system to the
next re-initialization.

ifDescr A textual string containing information about

the interface. This string should include the
name of the manufacturer, the product name
and the version of the hardware interface.

9-10 MediaSwift MIB Guide

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION

ifType The type of interface, distinguished according

to the physical/link protocol(s) immediately
`below' the network layer in the protocol stack.

ifMtu The size of the largest datagram which can be

sent/received on the interface, specified in
octets. For interfaces that are used for
transmitting network datagrams, this is the size
of the largest network datagram that can be
sent on the interface.

ifSpeed An estimate of the interface's current

bandwidth in bits per second. For interfaces
which do not vary in bandwidth or for those
where no accurate estimation can be made, this
object should contain the nominal bandwidth

ifPhysAddress The interface's address at the protocol layer

immediately `below' the network layer in the
protocol stack. For interfaces which do not
have such an address (e.g., a serial line), this
object should contain an octet string of zero
length.

ifAdminStatus The desired state of the interface. The

testing(3) state indicates that no operational
packets can be passed.

ifOperStatus The current operational state of the interface.

The testing(3) state indicates that no
operational packets can be passed.

ifLastChange The value of sysUpTime at the time the

interface entered its current operational state.
If the current state was entered prior to the last
re-initialization of the local network
management subsystem, then this object
contains a zero value.

ifInOctets The total number of octets received on the

interface, including framing characters.

ifInUcastPkts The number of subnetwork-unicast packets

delivered to a higher-layer protocol.

MediaSwift MIB Guide 9-11

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION

ifInNUcastPkts The number of non-unicast (i.e., subnetwork-

broadcast or subnetwork-multicast) packets
delivered to a higher-layer protocol.

ifInDiscards The number of inbound packets which were

chosen to be discarded even though no errors
had been detected to prevent their being
deliverable to a higher-layer protocol. One
possible reason for discarding such a packet
could be to free up buffer space.

ifInErrors The number of inbound packets that contained

errors preventing them from being deliverable
to ahigher-layer protocol.

ifInUnknownProtos The number of packets received via the

interface which were discarded because of an
unknown or unsupported protocol.

ifOutOctets The total number of octets transmitted out of

the interface, including framing characters.

ifOutUcastPkts The total number of packets that higher-level

protocols requested be transmitted to a
subnetwork-unicast address, including those
that were discarded or not sent.

ifOutNUcastPkts The total number of packets that higher-level

protocols requested be transmitted to a non-
unicast (i.e., a subnetwork-broadcast or
subnetwork-multicast) address, including those
that were discarded or not sent.

ifOutDiscards The number of outbound packets which were

chosen to be discarded even though no errors
had been detected to prevent their being
transmitted. One possible reason for
discarding such a packet could be to free up
buffer space.

ifOutErrors The number of outbound packets that could

not be transmitted because of errors.

ifOutQLen The length of the output packet queue (in

packets).

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION

ifSpecific A reference to MIB definitions specific to the

particular media being used to realize the
interface. For example, if the interface is
realized by an Ethernet, then the value of this
object refers to a document defining objects
specific to Ethernet. If this information is not
present, its value should be set to the OBJECT
IDENTIFIER 0 0 , which is a syntactically
valid object identifier, and any conformant
implementation of ASN.1 and BER must be
able to generate and recognize this value.
