Consider a Falcon 2000S business jet flying at Mach number 0.80 at an altitude of 10km,
where the density and temperature are 0.414kg/m3 and 223K. The maximum take-off
weight of the jet is 18,688 kg and the wing area is 49 m2.
a) What is the cruise velocity of business jet at the given altitude and Mach number?
(5 points)
b) Calculate the lift coefficient of the jet for a steady level flight at the given altitude.
(8 points)
Consider also a one-fifth scale model of the jet being tested in a wind tunnel in the
laboratory. The pressure in the test section of the wind tunnel is 1 atm.
c) Calculate the necessary velocity, temperature and density of the airflow in the
wind tunnel test section such that the lift and drag coefficients are the same for
the wind-tunnel model and the actual airplane in flight. (15 points)
d) Find the local pressure at a point on the test model where the pressure coefficient
is given as 0.15? (7 points)
You can assume that the dynamic viscosity and speed of sound are proportional to the
square root of temperature.
Question 2: (30 points)
Velocity profiles at upstream and downstream ends of a control volume shown below
of the control volume at downstream, is equal to 0.022c, where c is the chord length
of the airfoil placed in the control volume. It is known that the flow is incompressible,
two dimensional, and steady. The surfaces 3 and 4 are streamlines of the flow around
the airfoil. The pressure, is constant over the entire surface of the control volume.
Using the integral form of the continuity and momentum equation, calculate
