1. What does the term “Work Simplification Technique” mean? What are
the various technique being observed in meal preparation?
- The term “Work Simplification Technique” simply means, thinking
about the task and how it could be done differently to save your time
and energy.
The various techniques being observed in meal preparation is that
you plan the meal and the cooking method. Place ingredients and all
food to be prepared on the work bench or table. Another way to
minimize motions is to rinse and soak dishes. This simplifies the task
of washing dishes. Saving your steps in the kitchen is a method of
work simplification, too. Try not to walk back and forth across the
kitchen while preparing a meal. Instead, get your entire equipment
ready first. Then go to the cabinets and then to the refrigerator to get
the ingredients you need. An organized kitchen simplifies work. Store
tools in the area where you most often use them. Source:

2. What are the impacts of this technique in the food service industry,
especially in the way service is done?
- The impact of this technique in the food service industry,
especially in the way service is done is that the number and
complexity of menu items affects the production hours needed. If you
have a menu with many items requiring difficult production
techniques, you will require more preparation time per item. Yet, if
your menu consists of a limited number of items requiring minimal
preparation, you will require less time. They must decide how much
time and money they are willing to spend planning and preparing
meals. This will affect the decisions about what foods to serve and
how to prepare them. Source:

3. What should be the proper layout for large/major appliances in the

kitchen to ensure a smooth flow of work in the kitchen?
- Getting your kitchen layout right is the most important factor in
ensuring a functional and practical kitchen area. Understand your
space, who will be using the kitchen and for what purposes, and
design a layout that promotes an easy workflow through the kitchen. A
part of your layout must be careful in positioning of appliances to
meet these needs. This could include a beverage refrigerator,
dishwashers, range, oven, microwave, etc. Consider where they are
placed, their proximity to each other, ease of access to them, and their
size. Source: https://civiconcepts.com/blog/types-of-kitchen-layout-
