JOB ADVERT - SCAFFOLDER (01)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit one (01) Scaffolder to join our team. The successful
candidate for this position will be accountable in day-to-day scaffolding activities which involves determining
job requirements, planning/ configuring scaffolding, erection of scaffolding of various types, establishing
platforms and safety measures and dismantling and removing on completion of job with zero injury within the
guidelines of Company Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practice as well as other assigned tasks within
the range of competencies. The Scaffolder will report to Senior Geologist. This is a permanent Contract role,
with the work roster being fourteen (14) days on and seven (7) days off.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Ensure team member in the plant adhere to safety regulations and use the correct PPE.
 Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report.
 Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).
 Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations are reported.
 Adhere to isolation and lock out permits procedures.
 Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
 Performs high-quality, planned and unplanned repairs of any mechanical equipment in compliance with
applicable codes, standards, safety and environment regulation.
 Use of a wide range of hand tools and engineering techniques to maintain, replace and repair mechanical
plant and equipment to a high standard.
 Attain and maintain relevant licenses and authorizations required to execute allocated duties e.g. Basic
Rigging, Working at Heights, machine operation i.e. forklift, Bobcat, Teller handler, HIAB etc.
 Maintaining a clean and environmental safe work area, apply 5S principle.
 Perform any task as instructed by report line supervisor.
 Perform basic mechanical fitting, fabrication & welding, rubber lining, scaffolding and rigging works as
instructed by your supervisor.
 Determining job requirements and planning/configuring scaffolding
 Erection of scaffolding of various types, establishing platforms and safety measures.
 Dismantling and removing scaffolding on completion and pack to designated area.
 Accurately interpret and apply information from job orders, work orders, blueprints, sketch drawings, and
other blueprint documents.
 Inspect scaffold components and recognize damaged or defective parts. Regularly perform hands-on
scaffold and rig assessments to ensure worker safety.
 Complete daily visual inspections and light maintenance to guarantee that equipment is working
properly, notify supervisors of any damage, breakdowns, or safety issues.
 Perform basic math calculations to determine safe weight loads and interpret blueprints.
 Familiarity with crane operations and execute hand signals and man lifts, forklifts, and company trucks.
 Work with crane operators to properly rig material onto platforms using equipment such as slings and
cables.
 Compliance to Equipment Maintenance Schedule, equipment colour tagging every quarter,
structural/ground inspections prior to providing assistance for lifting, when required.
 Perform Inspection of all Lifting Equipment conducted daily inspection before use & quarterly colour
tagging recorded in respective Logbooks.
 Ensure Compliance to Scaffolding & Working at Height Standard Operating procedure Inspecting,
erecting, Risk Assessment.
 Clean equipment, using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents to ensure equipment or work area
remains clean and tidy.
 Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and
continuing needs.
 Responsible for shift handover at area of responsibility.
 Proactively identifying and acting on plant performance deviation.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
 Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or
its Equivalent).
 Recognized Practical qualifications.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 Minimum experience of five (05) years in a processing plant equipment and maintenance
 2-3 Years Post qualified experience in Supporting/ Assisting Rigging of Heavy Loads (>40 Tons) within
Mining/ Construction Industry.
 2-3 Years’ Experience in scaffolding.
 Ability to troubleshoot and strong attention to detail.
 Excellent technical skills and the ability to interpret schematics.
 Excellent safety record.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:


 Analytical skills, able to think logically and clearly; Strong attention to detail
 Complex problem solving skills.
 Check the plant for any defects – both process and whatever maintenance required
 Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
 Operate a variety of tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
 Perform safety inspections and identify safety hazards.
 Ability to work in confined spaces, work standing or in a crouched position for long periods
 Possession of Valid driving license.
 Basic bearing maintenance, pumps, machine lubrication, valves and seal, coupling fitting, pipe and fitting,
lifting equipment and basic rigging, hydraulic and pneumatics, basic machine alignment.
 Must have a “safety first” attitude and strong mechanical skills.
 Basic arithmetic skills.
