LV PANELS- ATS DATA[00321]

LOW VOLTAGE PANELS

LV PANELS- ATS DATA[00321]

Automatic Transfer Switch

Mechanism of Operation
Automatic transfer-This type of transfer takes place automatically per the
programmable settings in the ATS controller. The ATS controller senses source
availability and when the programmed conditions are met, initiates a command to
start the transfer including the generator start command (when transferring from a
utility to a generator source). An automatic transfer switch can be configured to
perform a utility-to utility transfer or a generator-to generator transfer (provided the
ATS controller has this capability).

UTILITY–GENERATOR

Transfer switches are traditionally applied

between a utility and a generator set for
emergency and standby power systems

GENERATOR–GENERATOR

Transfer switches are sometimes applied

between two generator sets for prime power use
(often in remote installations). In such
applications, source power is periodically
alternated between the generator sets to equally
share run time.

This step is achieved by a gentle turning of two selector switches:

LV PANELS- ATS DATA[00321]

1. The two position selector switch that lies on the right front of the
panel.

This switch is considered as the main switch of the ATS.

2. The two position selector switch that lies on LEFT front of the panel.

OFF The state where the load is de-energized. This state is selected by
making only the two position selector switch at off state

(Position 0)

MAINS The state where the only permitted supply for energizing the
load is the National electric grid. This state is selected by
making only the two position selector switch at MAINS state

(Position 1)

GEN1 The state where the only permitted supply for energizing the
load is DG1. This state is selected by making the two position selector
switch at MANUAL state

Manual operation - The contactor-based automatic transfer switches can be

manually operated by utilizing a tool supplied with the switch. Always make
sure that the Source 1 power and Source 2 power are off before making the
transfer

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
LV PANELS- ATS DATA[00321]

RIGID automatic transfer switches are

reliable, rugged, versatile, and
compact assemblies for transferring essential
loads and electrical
distribution systems from one power source
to another. RIGID’s
contactor-based transfer switch is rated 40–
1600A and can be
supplied in separate enclosures for
stand-alone applications or can
be supplied as an integral component in
the following equipment:

• MagnumE DS switchgear
• Pow-R-LineE switchboards
• Motor control centers
(MCCs)
• Panelboards
