Challenges of agriculture engineering

Firstly, one of the challenges in agriculture engineering is low crop yield. The unpredictable
weather conditions and inefficient techniques are amongst the few factors that reduces crop
produce. The weather and climate are natural phenomenon that sometimes cannot be
predicted. The influence of weather and climate on the different components of crop
production can differ, and often happen at the same time. Hence, different kinds of climatic
extremes can affect crop production distinctively. For an instance, the flood that usually
occur during the monsoon season may destroy the paddy plants. However, the inefficient
techniques that the farmers apply during planting their crop also can affect the crop yield. The
wrong techniques might cause the plant die due to lack or get excess of the nutrient. For an
example, when the farmer put excess fertilizer on the plants, the plants might get excess
fertilizers which can alter the soil by creating too high of a salt concentration, and this can
hurt good soil microorganisms. Overfertilization can lead to sudden plant growth with an
inadequate root system to provide enough water and nutrients to the plant. Poor root structure
decreases the number of flowers and fruit production, and can result in plant growth spurts
that won’t be supported or sustained.

Secondly, the challenge in agriculture engineering is variation within farms and regions. The
agriculture farm affected by the resource endowments by the government, location
topography and farmers circumstances. There are only a few lands that gazette for certain
community to build the recreation park or houses to live. However, a few communities have
changed those land into farm to grow vegetables and fruits. The location topography also a
challenge to the agriculture sector as the highland will increase the possibility the disaster
occurs such as landslides and tree felling on the agriculture regions. However, the farmers
circumstances effect the planting of agriculture products. If the farmers have a complete
machinery, thus the planting of the plants can be done very well but it is a difficulty for the
farmer on the highland to use machinery optimally as the topography location is not suitable
for those big machinery to get in.

Thirdly, the challenge is decrease in labor for agriculture. People nowadays are not interested
on the agriculture sector because they do not see the future profits that they can achieve. This
happen because they do not get the right exposure about the benefit of the agriculture sector
to the individual, community and the nation as well. Even though the world population
increase annually, the people still do not realize that agriculture must be develop to
accommodate the global demand of food. People usually not see this agriculture sector as a
business because they already get enough food for them to eat. Therefore, only a few of
young people in a community involve in this sector as they courage to face the risk to get the
big future benefits.

The last but not least, the challenge in agriculture engineering is increase in demand for
quality product. This is because some of the local product will be exported to the other
regions of the country. Thus, it is important to produce more quality products by the farmer
daily to avoid the producing of wastage. The production of wastage happens due to the poor
quality of seeds, inadequate farming practices or insect attacks in the field that can provoke
losses of products even before their harvests. Therefore, the farmer should use the best seeds
in the market and use the right farming practices in order to increase the good quality of
products.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the agriculture engineering is a significant branch as it is involved with

designing the farm machinery, the location and planning of the farm structure, farm drainage,
soil management and erosion control, water supply and irrigation, rural electrification and the
processing of farm products. Without the agriculture engineer, this sector cannot be
developed well because the farmers will still use traditional methods to farm the agriculture
product. Therefore, the local products would not be exported internationally. US Bureau Of
Labor Statistics state that employment of agricultural engineers is projected to grow 2 percent
from 2019 to 2029, slower than the average for all occupations. The need to increase the
efficiency of agricultural production systems and to reduce environmental damage should
maintain demand for these workers.

The agriculture engineers responsible to design machinery and system that benefit the
agriculture sector. They help the farmer to use the technological machinery well in order to
ease their works and increase the crop yield as well. They also carry the testing related to the
farming to make sure the farmers use the best breed to produce the good quality of product
such as the bi in size and can withstand the changing weather or temperature. Agriculture
engineer also consult the farmer in supervising their planting to make sure the soils, water ,
fertilizers and the weather is suitable for the growth of the plants. In addition, they involve in
the construction projects like water drainage which would affects the water supply for the
plants.

Thus, the agriculture engineering has to be exposed to the young generation so that they
realize the importance of this profession to community and the country as well. By doing this,
the agriculture sector in our country can be developed and the farmers can use the
technological machinery optimally equivalent with the farmers in other developed country.
