Storage

1. a) man- food is stored in the fat, the liver and the, muscles. It is stored as glycogen.
b) A potato plant- the food is stored in the underground parts of the plant and it is stored
as starch.
c) A rice plant- the food is stored in the panicle (the head of the grain) and it is stored as
starch.
d) Sugar cane- the food is stored in the stem and it is stored as sucrose and sugar.
e) Sugar beet- the food is stored in the root and it is stored as sucrose

2. To overcome the need for continuous manufacture; during the night, photosynthesis
stops because there is no light.
To provide for periods of scarcity, like droughts and famines.
3. Grain is a better source of food for man because the food that is stored in the storage
organs are there for special reasons, like the muscles cells that need their own store of
food or to produce reproductive structures like the embryo.
4. Sucrose contains more energy than starch, so it is more energy efficient, both in
transport and storage.

5. As time progresses the amount of carbohydrates in the potato tuber increased while the
amount of carbohydrates in the leaf was decreased.

chicken that is inside the egg
c) a bean- food is stored for the winter and in the nights when the sun is no longer out and
photosynthesis can no longer take place.
d) a coconut- food is stored to provide food for its consumers
e) carrot- food is stored in the root and is lived on all winter and in the summer a new
plant grows from these roots
