Name some activities which can be consider as leisure time and recreation. Give 5
examples for each and explain.

Here are some activities which can be consider as leisure time and recreation.

Basketball Attending concerts

LEISURE ACTIVITIES:
 People participate in leisure activities when they have free time in the
evenings and on weekends. They are never work oriented and do not involve
task such as housework or sleeping. Some are the example of leisure
activities above. However, not all leisure activities are sportive. Some people
would rather spend their free time in painting, watching movies, playing
video games, drawing, reading, etc.
 People who take up leisure activities are usually happier and healthier than
people who don’t for a variety of reasons.
1. Leisure activities help people reduce their levels of stress. They can
forget about their workload/school work and family responsibilities
and just enjoy the moment.
2. Participating in certain leisure activities provide people an
opportunity to meet others who share the same interest and
sometimes even make friends.
3. Also, leisure activities such as painting, sculpting, singing. provide an
artistic outlet, which is always a positive thing.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES:
 refers to all those activities that people choose to do to refresh their bodies
and minds and make their leisure time more interesting and enjoyable.
Another example of recreational activities is walking, swimming, etc.
 the type of recreational and sporting activities people participate in are
determined by age, gender, local context and socioeconomic status.

CHARACTERISTICS OF RECREATION
Here is some another characteristic of recreation
 recreation occurs during leisure
 recreation is as different as people are different; it is extremely wide and
varied.
 recreation has no single form; it offers a variety of choices with endless
possibilities.
 recreation involves an individual’s attitude, motive and incentive.
 recreation may occur or not occur; a specific activity may be recreation for
an individual at one time, but not at another time.
 recreation and work are not the same thing; although an individual may be
very happy in his job, it is not possible for that individual’s work to be his
creation.
