2 Safety

2.1 Intended use


The device controls exclusively the machine indicated on the title page.

► Use the device only for its intended purpose.

2.2 Technical state


If the control is operated when defective, the safety, function and availability will
be impaired.

► Only operate the control when it is in perfect technical condition.


► Comply with the maintenance schedule.
► Only use original spare parts.
► If the operational behavior of the control changes, check the machine for
general defects.
► Eliminate any faults immediately.
► Do not convert or alter the control without authorization.

2.3 ATEX designation


The ATEX designation specifies under which conditions the control system can
be used in or attached to an Ex zone.

► Note the nameplate.

2.4 Personnel qualifications


Unqualified personnel cannot recognize risks and are thus exposed to greater
danger.

► Only charge qualified personnel with tasks described in these operating in-
structions.
► The plant operator must ensure that personnel comply with local laws and
regulations for safe and hazard-conscious work.
► The plant operator must assign responsibilities and make these known. Pro-
vide keys and passwords only to assigned personnel.

4.2 Operating principle


MEAG universal control units control, regulate and monitor processes for ma-
chines and apparatus such as scales, bagging scales, slide gates and flow bal-
ancers.

The control unit software can be configured for various applications. It is operat-
ed in the same way for all applications.

4.3 Operating mode


The DMS transmitter converts a load cell signal into a digital weight value. This
weight value (gross weight) is transmitted in various ways:

■ As a value on the display screen.


■ As a digital output signal to the 24 V outputs.
8 bits are available in the basic version.
With a CAN / I/O expansion, 20 output bits are available in binary format.
Output in BCD format is also possible.
■ RS-485 serial interface according to Bühler standard protocol.
■ Profibus DP with various protocols.
■ 0/4 … 20 mA analog output.
Caution: this output is less precise.

Connect bus terminating resistor to X80. All 3 jumpers are connected as stand-
ard.

Used primarily as a HOST interface.

6.2 Parameters and parameter groups
Parameters in this document have the notation “Parametergroup.Parameter”, e.g.
SYS.TYP is the parameter TYP of the parameter group SYS. The decimal preci-
sion of the displayed weight values depends on the ADC.DIV parameter. Set the
weight unit at the ADC.UNIT parameter.

The following diagram shows the structure of the parameter groups. P1, P2 and
P3 represent the individual parameters.

7 Configuration

7.1 Setting the application


Select the desired application with the SYS.TYP parameter.

Prerequisites:

■ The application is not in operation.


■ Calibration switch in CAL position.
Further information about the calibration switch: See page 11,
chapter “Circuit board EBD 1312”.

Important
The control system application is normally already set in the factory.
► Only carry out the following procedure if the application was reset or not
set.

1. Press and for 1 second.


→ Changes to the subordinate parameter group.

2. Press until the SYS parameter group is selected.


→ The TYP parameter is displayed with the default value NOAPP.

3. Press for 1 second.


→ The parameter value flashes.

4. Press + or until the application is displayed.


5. Press again.
→ The parameter value lights up. The application is selected.
The program restarts automatically.

7.2 Device-specific settings


► Select application.
► SYS.TYP = DMS-T

► Set division.
► Set a meaningful division value at the ADC.DIV parameter appropriate to
the weight range used. If the device is not being used in an area that is
subject to calibration, the division value must be approximately 1/10,000
of the maximum weight, e.g. 0.01 kg for a 100-kg scale.

► Set Profibus-DP.
► If Profibus-DP is being used, set the desired protocol at the PBDP.MPDP
parameter and the address at PBDP.ADR.

7.3 Using the input wizard
Enter parameter values with the input wizard.

Important
This procedure is used to change important settings that have normally al-
ready been set in the factory.
► Only carry out this procedure if the most important parameters were not
configured in the factory or if the control system is to be reset.

1. Calibration switch in CAL position.


2. Press until the SYS parameter group is displayed.
3. Press .
→ The message ASSIST ON lights up briefly. The input wizard is activated.
flashes.

4. Change the displayed parameter. To do this, press for 1 second.


→ The parameter value flashes.

5. Press + or until the desired parameter value is displayed.


6. Press again.
→ The parameter value is set.

7. Press to move to the next parameter.


8. Repeat steps 3 to 6 until all parameters have been set.
→ The message ASSIST OFF lights up briefly. The input wizard is deacti-
vated. disappears.

7.4 Scale calibration


If there are several scales present, perform this process separately for each
scale. Select the individual scales with the ADC.CHNR parameter.

Prerequisites

■ Calibration switch is in CAL position.


■ If still present, remove transport locking device from weighing container or
weighing platform. Weighing containers or weighing platform hang freely.
■ The scale is empty.

1. Switch on the control. After switching on, wait at least 10 minutes.


2. Zero scale:
► Select ADC.ZERO parameter.
► Press for 1 second.
→ A rotating clock symbol is displayed. Do not touch the scale during this
process.

3. Calibrate scale:
► Select ADC.CALW parameter.
► Enter the total weight of the calibration weights. The calibration weight
should be 30...100 % of the load capacity.
► Fasten the calibrations weights symmetrically in the intended places.
► Press for 1 second.
→ A rotating clock symbol is displayed. Do not touch the scale during this
process.

4. Select ADC.WT parameter.


5. Check whether the value displayed matches the calibration weight value.
6. Remove the calibration weights.
→ 0 is displayed for ADC.WT parameter.

7. For scales with several load cells:


► Place a weight of 0.1 … 20 kg (depending on scale size) on each of the
load cells in turn.
► If the weight is not displayed correctly, eliminate the fault following the
scale's operating instructions.

8. Set calibration switch on main circuit board to RUN.

7.5 Restoring factory settings


The parameters of the universal control are reset to the factory settings with the
following procedure.

CAUTION
All set values are overwritten.
► All parameters that differ from the factory setting must be reentered.

1. Select the “SYS.INIT” parameter.


2. Press for 8 seconds.
→ The universal control is reset to factory settings.

8.1 Notes for the parameter details


The letter after “Step” indicates to what extent the corresponding parameter is
locked for the change when the input lock is activated. The following values ap-
ply:

Step Description
No information. Parameters can always be adjusted.
C Parameters can be adjusted when the calibration switch is set to CAL.
L Parameter can be adjusted if LOCK parameter = OFF.
Locked if LOCK parameter = LOW/MED/HIGH.
M Parameter can be adjusted if LOCK parameter = OFF/LOW.
Locked if LOCK parameter = MED/HIGH.
H Parameter can be adjusted if LOCK parameter = OFF/LOW/MED.
Locked if LOCK parameter = HIGH.
A Hide parameter if SYS.HIDE = ON.

The input lock is set with the “SYS.LOCK” parameter. It is deactivated by de-
fault. See page 33, parameter “SYS.LOCK”.

8.2 Application parameters


When an “x” or an “n” comes after the parameter name, this corresponds to the
channel number.

8.2.1 USER (operating parameters) parameter group

Notes on the “parameter number”:

The value of the “parameter number” stands for the parameter that is displayed
after a certain time if no button is pressed during this time. It is set in the
“SYS.SD” parameter.

If the SD parameter has the value 1, for example, the parameter of the USER
parameter group whose parameter number has the value 1 is used.

This data is only used in the USER parameter group.

Alarms and messages have the following syntax: The letter A for alarm or W for
warning followed by a three-digit number.

Example: A073.

If a number follows the alarm or warning, it is a device-specific warning. The


number then indicates the device number.

Example: A073.2

If no further details are provided about the acknowledgement, the acknowledge-


ment of the alarm depends on the “SYS.ACLR” parameter. See page 34,
parameter “SYS.ACLR”.

■ “SYS.ACLR = OFF” = Automatic acknowledgement if the cause of the alarm


has been remedied or when a change has been made to Step 1.
■ “SYS.ACLR” = ON: No automatic acknowledgement. Acknowledgement only

9.5 Status messages


Status messages provide information about the device state. The messages ap-
pear in alternation with the normal display and only while the state persists.

Alarms have higher priority and overwrite status messages.

Some of the following messages are application-specific, i.e. they do not occur
with every control.

Display State
LOCAL STOP Device was stopped manually.
STOP Device was stopped because 0 V is present at the 24 V
input “Enable/Start”.
c STOP Device was stopped because no enable is connected via
Profibus or RS-485 (HOST).
v STOP Device was stopped because the set point is too low.
m STOP Device was stopped because no motor current is meas-
ured for the grinding motors. The motors were not start-
ed or the current measurement is not working.
Σ STOP Device was stopped because the required total or a re-
quired number was reached.
WAIT PRODUCT Device is started but no product is present (e.g. product
probe is uncovered).

LOCAL The device is operated locally. Only if REMOTE input is
active and 0 V is applied.
MANUAL The device is operated manually. No automatic control
sequence.
EMERGENCY Device is in emergency operation (“TCON.MODE”).
TEACHING Device is in learning mode.
HIGH SETP Set point is too high. The set point is limited to the max-
imum value.
SIM ON Simulator mode is activated, i.e. “SERV.SIMM” = ON.
SIM FREEZE Simulator mode is on but passive.
TEST Device is in test mode.
LOW SETP Set point is too low. The set point is limited to the mini-
mum or 0.
WARM UP Wait until the AD converter is stable.
STOP OPEN OK Device is stopped. All elements are in home position.
The machine may be switched off or opened.
OVERLOAD The grinding motor utilization has exceeded 130 %. The
grinding rollers were disengaged.
SAVE BUSY Automatic grinding gap adjustment has sent a save re-
quest. However, the message has not been acknowl-
edged by the host system.
HL INLET The product probe in the inlet signals that it is covered
(0 V). This message is only output if “TCON.HL IN” =
DIG_IN.

9.6 Short messages


Short messages are operating aids. They appear once at the touch of a button.

Some of the following messages are application-specific, i.e. they do not occur
with every control.

Example: When a recipe has been loaded.
LOCK Parameter modification is locked.

EBD 1320. If several CAN expansion modules of the same type are present, dif-
