AC 5.1 Describe the meaning of Equal Opportunities

Equal rights is the right to be treated without any prejudice or discrimination

attached to you, especially when they are along the lines of one’s sex, rage, age or
anything that we deem personal.
AC 5.2 Describe the VALUE of Equal Opportunities legislation. (Select THREE pieces of key
legislation).

Legislation example 1:
Sex Discrimination Act 1975

Value?
This legislation protected men and women from discrimination on the grounds of
sex or marital status. This is a good advancement as the Act concerned
employment, training, education, harassment, the provision of goods and services,
and the disposal of premises.

Legislation example 2:
Race Relations Act 1976

Value?
This legislation was set in place to provide protection to everyone on the grounds
of race relations between different race groups and to make in the Sex
Discrimination Act 1975 amendments for bringing provisions in that Act relating to
its administration and enforcement into conformity with the corresponding
provisions in this Act.

Legislation example 3:
Disability Discrimination Act 1995

Value?
This legislation was created in order to protect people that are disabled from being discrimination. An
example of this is the fact that disabled people can not be refused a job because of the situation they are
in.
