(ANGELA has fashioned a speaker out of some Jukebox Parts.)

PROXI
How did you learn how to do all this?

ANGELA
I read a lot.

PROXI
A lot of people read a lot but not a lot of people can do
that.

ANGELA
Making contraptions is really just Applied Math.

PROXI
Why math?

ANGELA
You don’t have to depend on anybody else. Math isn’t messy.
It’s perfect. There are rules that absolutely everything
you do is based upon. From the most complex equation to… 2
+ 2 = 4.

PROXI
Well, that’s what music is! Scales, chords, there’s a
theory to it! (PROXI picks up a guitar.) From the most
complicated equation. (She plays an insanely
intricate/dissonant little tune.) To 2 + 2 = 4. (She plays
three simple chords.) Music is messy and it’s perfect.

ANGELA
But the way you act, the way you dress- you’re always
opening yourself up to be picked apart or sniffed at or-

PROXI
You’re making me sound like a bloomin’ blooming onion, I
take offense to that!

orchestra because I was too scared to have people look at
me. But you let it all hang out. No hiding.

PROXI
You’d be surprised.

ANGELA
It doesn’t bother you? When people look at you in a certain
way?

PROXI
Sure. But all things considered, I have it easy. I owe it
to the people who don’t have it quite as easy to not let
the haters bring me down. Somebody doesn’t like what I’m
wearing? I don’t care. I think I’m the dog’s bollocks.

ANGELA

PROXI
No one really knows.
