Introductory Message

Welcome to Science 4!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts

of the Schools Division of Aklan and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western
Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division
(CLMD). This is developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers,
parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners meet the standards
set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials

aimed to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace
and time using the contextualized resources in the community. This will
also assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge
and attitudes for productivity and employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Science 4 Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-
learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and
learner. This will be made available to the learners with the
references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The Science 4 Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue

learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being
an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then
perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned
to your facilitator on the agreed sched

Interactions Among Living Things
I. Learning Competency with Code

Describe some types of beneficial and harmful interactions among

living things.

II. Background Information for Learners

Everything on Earth does not exist in isolation. In order to survive,

individual organisms live together in an ecosystem. They interact every
day to find food or shelter, avoid predators or keep a mate. This
interaction is a vital part of how organisms develop and change over
time. Some of these interactions are beneficial, benefitting all organisms
involved. On the other hand, others are harmful which do not give
benefit or cause harm to both organisms.

So, what are these interactions in an ecosystem?

The table below shows beneficial and harmful interactions among

living things.

Types of Description Example

Interaction
A relationship between Bee and Flowering
Mutualism organisms from two different Plant
species in which both of the
organisms benefit from Bee sipping nectars as
the relationship. Both their food and then
organisms use each other pollinating the flowers
for getting nutrients,
protection and other
function.

Now, you have known how organisms live together in an

ecosystem and depend on one another for survival. They interact
differently with each other. These interactions are either beneficial or
harmful.

4. An interaction in which one organism kills another for food or nutrients.
6. A type of relationship in which one organism lives with, on, or in a host and
harms it.
7. An organism that kills and feed on other organisms in a predation relationship.
9. The struggle between two organisms to survive as they attempt to use the
same limited resources in the same place at the same time.
10. Organisms that is killed in a predation interaction.
Down:
1, A type of interaction in which both species benefit from loving together.
2. Snake kills mouse. In this example what is a snake?
3. A type of interaction between 2 species in which one species benefits and the
other species is neither helped nor harmed.
5. The organism that benefits by living with, on, or in a host in a parasitism
interaction.
8. The organism that a parasite lives with, in, or on and provides a source of energy
or suitable environment for the parasite.
