Fibre concrete spacers
You should consider the following when selecting spacers:
Spacers
■ Spacer selection information based on exposure classifi- ■ Type of reinforcement - single bars or mats
cation in DIN EN 1992-1-1:2001-01 (Eurocode 2) ■ Simple, rapid and cost effective fixing
■ Spacer selection information dependent on nature of ■ Type of fixing - without tying wire, with tying wire, with
structure and type of spacer used based on the DBV steel or plastic clips
data sheet “spacers”. ■ External influences affecting the concrete, such as
■ Required concrete cover according to EN206, paragraph pressure, temperature, chemical attack, alternating
6.3 nominal measurement of concrete cover cnom moisture penetration, fire and corrosion
Formwork Technologies
■ Spacer loading from the weight of reinforcement and ■ Concrete surface finishing - stucco work
additional loads e.g. foot traffic during concreting, fixing ■ Exposed concrete - the spacer imprint becomes visible
and erection work on the concrete surface (kindly refer to DBV instructions
■ Diameter and location of the reinforcement - wall/slab sheet “exposed concrete”)
The fixing interval is based primarily on the accepted deflection at maximum loading, e.g. when the reinforcement is walked
on, especially during concreting. When placing bar spacers in the tension zone of the component to be concreted, use
spacers of reduced length and arrange them with overlaps.

Fibre concrete bar spacers
Special spacers
Special spacers according to your wishes available to order with short lead times.
Spacers
We can offer numerous cost effective solutions to tight tolerances.
■ “Shoe-shape” spacers are provided with a nail hole and are suitable for the use of inclined formwork.
The spacer can be fixed with a nail and slipping is thus ruled out.
■ The reinforcement support consists of a cylinder made of fibre-reinforced concrete and a plastic dowel for the fixing of
vertical reinforcing bars. The plastic dowel automatically clamps the reinforcing bar when pushed onto the end of it.
■ Spacers for slotted walls prevent the contact of the reinforcement and the excavation wall and ensure an edging-free

lowering of large reinforcement components thanks to the skid profile.
■ Spacers for concrete pipe manufacture can be attached to the internal and/or external reinforcement and centre the
reinforcement cage.

Getting the right amount of concrete cover is essential for the durability of reinforced concrete structures. Spacers ensure
this concrete cover before and during concreting. In the case of simple interior components, plastic spacers are a cost-effec-
tive alternative to the tried and tested fibre-reinforced concrete spacers and to spacers made of cast concrete.

Steel spacers
Steel spacers are used between the lower and upper reinforcement in the floor, ceiling and wall. They ensure the spacing
between the reinforcement layers. This type of spacer is ideally suited for installation of mats and steel bar reinforcements.
Advantages
■ Won’t tip over due to a stable contact ■ No contact with the formwork, therefore no
surface with the lower reinforcement damage to the formwork skin and no rust stain
formation on the concrete surface

Stiffening
Spacers
The box-out shutters are made of stable trapezoidal sheet metal. Stiffening can
therefore often be dispensed with. However, if recesses with particularly large
dimensions should be required, it is recommended to additionally stiffen the
box-out shutters. The stiffening of the preassembled box-out shutters and the
attachment of a base is possible in the factory, so that the shutters can be deliv-
ered fully assembled to the building site.

Egcodorn ® shear force dowel
Spacers
Expansion joints are provided in concrete structures to decouple components and avoid stress cracks. Shear force dowels
are used for the transmission of shear forces which occur in such joints.
There are three basic types, which are designed for different applications. The Egcodorn® shear force dowel system offers
predictability in planning and execution for high static loads. Egcodorn® DND is the optimal solution where dynamic stresses
are to be considered, e.g. in the case of navigated joints. Egcodubel is the most economical product for structural connec-

Building owners are demanding ever more in terms of savings on heating costs, a healthy room climate and the associated
prevention of condensation and mould formation. When planning, therefore, attention must be paid to minimizing thermal
bridges in the area of the building shell.
Thermal bridges can be avoided with the thermally insulating Egcobox® cantilever connector. The Egcobox® structural con-
necting element creates a thermal break between an external component and an internal component.
The structural function of the Egcobox® is provided by a bar framework made of reinforcing steel, which passes through the

Egcobox ® FST steel connections
Spacers
In the case of steel structures in industrial and residential construction, special attention must be paid to detail planning when
a component penetrates the outer shell of a building.
With conventional construction methods, thermal bridges are created at the transition from the building to the projecting
component. This leads to increased energy consumption and runs the risk of condensation and mould formation.
The Egcobox® FST steel connection is an optimal solution for the thermal separation of steel structures and thus reduces
thermal bridges, without limiting the structural effectiveness of the support system.
Insulation for the connecting element is available in polystyrene or rock wool, on request.

ject on the basis of the existing installation geometry and the structural requireme-

sile force stresses as well as normal or shear force stresses.
A component consists of threaded rods with a diameter of 16 mm or 22 mm, ar-
ranged in pairs. The on-site modification or assembly of the Egcobox® FST is un-
necessary on account of the precisely dimensioned individual manufacturing.

Shearail® Studs
Studs are manufactured from UK CARES and approved ribbed carbon steel
reinforcing bars with minimum yield strength of 500 MPa. The stud material is
specially sourced and selected to meet the temperatures involved in forging. The
resulting grain refinement in the head from the thermal cycle and deformation
process prevents brittle failures. The finished products are regularly tested and

inspected. The bars are forged to produce double headed studs in a controlled
factory environment maintaining the original characteristic yield strength of the
steel and more importantly the ductility values.
Shearail® Rails
Rails are manufactured to the specific requirements of the design in accordance
to BS 8110 and BS EN 1992-1-1 (EC2) and the UK National Annex determining
the stud diameter, layout patterns, spacing, and number of studs.
Shearail® double headed studs can replace links on a like for like basis. Studs

After curing of the concrete, the injection hoses may be filled with suitable injection material (resins). Due to the high injec-
tion pressure, the grout will be pressed through the hose valves into the void space. Thus, “voids” sealing any possible water
penetration paths into the building. Our extensive range of injection grouts offers an appropriate solution for every sealing
requirement. The product range is completed by additional crack injection tools.

Cresco ® expanding waterstop
Spacers
Cresco® expanding waterstop tapes are used in particular for difficult geometric joint profiles. Sealing tapes prevent soil
moisture, pressing and non-pressing water from penetrating into the structure. When water enters the working joint, the
expansion process starts and creates a sealing effect. Expanding waterstop products are used where new concrete meets
hardened (old) concrete and a working joint seal is necessary. The rubber expanding waterstops are attached with Cresco®
fixing adhesive (expanding waterstop adhesive) and the Cresco® fixing mesh (expanding waterstop mesh). Pipe seals with
Cresco® expanding waterstop are also a reliable solution in the floor slab area.

Egcotritt and Egcosono for acoustic decoupling of stair landings and exterior corridors
Spacers
The requirements for sound insulation in buildings have been
increasing for years. To meet the requirements, impact sound
insulation of stairs and stair landings must be certified.
The impact noise insulated Egcotritt shear force dowel re-
duces impact sound by decoupling components. It is used for
the bedding of stair landings, arcades and cantilever balco-

nies and transmits the shear forces acting in the connection
joint. At the same time, the acoustically decoupled bedding
ensures that the transmission of irritating noises into adjacent
rooms is insulated – this increases the living comfort and well-
being of the residents.
In-situ concrete and precast element versions of all products
in the Egcotritt series are available.

Spacers
In order to protect built-over structures (tunnel, sewers,
etc.) against the load of a new building situated above
them, a load-free layer can be created between the exist-
ing construction and the new building using the Egcov-
oid® void former. The structures are statically isolated from
each other.

Acoustic decoupling of common walls
To statically and acoustically separate an existing wall from
a newly built wall, an air gap can be created using the
Egcovoid® void former through the subsequent removal
of the former. As opposed to permanent formwork with
perimeter insulation, a sound bridge and static influence

if a foundation and the floor slab above it are subsequently
to be concreted in one casting. No shear forces are
transmitted from the floor slab via the foundation into the
existing structure, as the Egcovoid® void former forms a
load free layer after watering.

Sorp 10 ® room-acoustic sound absorber
Formwork Technologies
The requirements regarding sustainable buildings and rising energy costs are increasingly leading to the use of partially core
activated building components. These must not be covered with absorbent materials or concealed with suspended ceiling
systems.
The Sorp 10® sound absorber combines room acoustics and core part activation into one function. Reverberation time can
be reduced with a stripe arrangement of Sorp 10® in the bare ceiling. At the same time the influence on the thermal efficien-
cy of the activated ceiling is minimized.
Sorp 10® allows the room acoustics to be specifically included in the project planning and implemented in the shell con-

struction phase.
Advantages
■ Room acoustics for thermally activated components ■ Very high sound absorption coefficient with low surface
■ Diversity of optical design option: open or filled coverage
■ Installation already in the shell ■ Recyclable, non-combustible
■ Acoustics immediately effective after demoulding ■ No loss of usable room height
