I wanted to create a safe space for people like myself as well as positively impact our school life and make it more inclusive and safer for those who are yet to experience it. No, the person was not involved in similar groups in secondary school, as their secondary school was quite right wing and traditional, where being queer or fighting for women's rights was ridiculed. Yes, it was easy to set up the group, as approval just needed from various people, and the person's social outgoingness and confidence helped with this.

“I wanted to positively impact our school life”
Were you involed in any similar groups in secondary? No, this wasn’t necessarily made available for me. My secondary school was quite right wing and ‘traditional’ in their main articel views. Being queer or fighting for women’s rights was a point of ridicule. As a plus sized outspoken feminist, I wasnt willing to out myself further to make or suggest such a group that would make my experience even worse
Do you think that it was easy to set up/take
over the group? Yes, it was, all that was needed was approval from a variety of people. As I am socially outgoing and confident this wasn’t an issue for me. The people I went to welcomed the idea and encouraged it, seeing its use and the benefits of in in our school enviroment
Thinking about setting up your
own group? Talk to a trusted member of staff at your school. Or try bringing it up to your school council 6
