Gwynette de Guzman - Chapter 2 Assessment
Gwynette de Guzman - Chapter 2 Assessment
Provide brief/concise answers (max of 200 words/item) to the following questions: (15 points each)
1. How would you relate the W. James’ concept of I-self and Me-self to the current
experience of flexible or online learning?
—With the current situation, which is the flexible or online learning, myself have
had thoughts about will I manage to survive my first year as an engineering
student? Or not? Due to the response of my thoughts regarding the current
problem we are facing, my I-self would often think that I would not be able to
cope up with the overflowing activities as well as it gives me an idea that I should
just give up in achieving my dreams. Yet, with the help of how my me-self
interpret the situation, instead of believing or clinging on to what my I-self thinks,
I felt so motivated and inspired to do better since it is what everyone expects me
to do. The Me-self provides a clearer point of view to our current situation in
which it suggests that regardless of how the I-self quickly reacts to how things
stand right now, it encourages me to prove how worthy myself is when it comes
to being successful in life.
2. Describe your IDEAL SELF. How would you make it congruent with your real self?
4. Do you agree on Carl Jung’s concept of archetypes which are embedded in our
collective unconscious? Justify your answer by citing a personal experience.
—Yes, just like how I often respond with having new friends. I am a friendly type
of a person yet I don’t give my trust easily. I usually observe first rather than
showing them instantly my true personality and qualities. For instance, during the
first month of my college year, I did not show my talkative and approachable
quality yet since I was afraid of receiving judgements from my classmates. Since,
being talkative means that I have a lot to share and I have a difficulty in stopping
especially if the person I am talking to is someone I am comfortable with, there is
a high chance that they will be either annoyed or they will hate me for talking too
much. Additionally, I frequently hide my approachable side since I am terrified of
disappointing people and/ or give them false information. Nevertheless, as time
pass by, I have learned to slowly show them my hidden attributes in order for me
to easily adapt with the environment.
