Answer:
PREVENTION OF TRAIN OVERLOADING OR COLLAPSING THE TRAIN DURING
LANDINGS
a. The following proven and experienced landing procedures are recommended to
prevent inadvertent retraction of the gear during touchdown or taxiing of the
aircraft.
(1) On the tailwind leg, or on the final approach, make it a habit to complete the
recommended landing gear checklist for your aircraft. This should be done for 2 reasons.
Make sure the necessary action has been taken to lower the gear, which increases your
awareness of being able to recheck the gear down indicator before landing.
(2) Complete the landing run and clear the runway before operating any lever or switch,
unless good operating practices indicate otherwise. This will cause the following: The
landing gear leg safety switches will engage, disabling the landing gear retract system.
After taxiing and clearing the runway, you can turn your attention to the post-landing
checklist and identify the appropriate controls.
b. We suggest the following for owner / operator consideration:
(1) Provide a checklist, located in the pilot's view, which will remind the pilot to use it and
will serve as an easy reference.
(2) Periodically review your aircraft landing gear extension emergency procedures
(3) Familiarize yourself with your aircraft's landing gear warning light and horn system. Use
the horn system in a crossover fashion with the warning light system when an unsafe
condition is detected.
(4) Review the procedure for replacing the warning light lamps for the landing gear of your
aircraft so that you can replace a lamp to determine if the lamp (s) on the indicator panel is
(are) in good conditions. Check for replacement lamps on the aircraft before flight.
(5) Internalize that the landing gear definitions have been corrected before flying.
