HISTORY OF THE MUNICIPALITY

1. Before Narra became a municipality, the area was originally a part of Aborlan.
2. In 1947, the Rice and Corn Productivity Administration discovered its land’s
potential to agriculture.
3. The land from Tigman River of Plaridel, Aborlan to the Parian River of Bato-bato,
which is now known as Brgy. San Isidro was chosen by the RCPA to develop as
farmland, and was proclaimed Central Palawan Settlement Project under
Proclamation no. 190 by the former President Elpidio Quirino.
4. Under the administration of the former President Ramon Magsaysay, the national
government recruited peasants and farmers from different provinces of the
Philippines to move to the said land, and each family were given lands for rice
and corn plantation.
5. Former Congressman Ramon V. Mitra, JR. proposed the separation of Narra
from Aborlan.
6. The Municipality of Narra was legally established under the Republic Act 5642 in
June 21, 1969 by the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
7. The name “Narra” derived from the “National Resettlement and Rehabilitation
Administration.

1. Geographical size: 831.73 km2 (321.13 sq mi), 5.68% of Palawan’s total area.
2. Location: Southern part of Palawan, 96 kilometers away from Puerto Princesa
City
3. Population: 73, 212 (2015 Census)
4. Narra is known as the “Rice Granary of Palawan,” the “Home of the Cleanest
Inland Body of Water-River Category,” and the “Katala Capital of the World.”
5. 23 Barangays: Antipuluan, Aramaywan, Bagong Sikat, Batang-batang, Burirao,
Caguisan, Calategas, Dumangeña, Elvita, Estrella Village, Ipilan, Malatgao,
Malinao, Panacan, Panacan 2, Poblacion, Princess Urduja, Sandoval, San Isidro
(former Bato-bato), Tacras, Taritien, Teresa at Tinagong Dagat.
PEOPLE
1. Tagbanuas – Buong, Narra (the boundary of Aborlan and Narra) is known to be a
part of Central Tagbanua.
2. Visayan migrants and others –Palawan was historically known for being one of
the least populated islands due to the severe cases of malaria and leprosy. At
the end of the World War II, the government resettled a large number of people
to Palawan, most of them are from the Visayan community.

1. FAUNA:
a) Philippine Cockatoo or Cacatua haematuropygia (critically endangered) –
Rasa Island

critically endangered bird)

h) Yellow Tiger Orchid

ECONOMY
1. 14 of 23 barangays are located at coastal areas in which their primary means of
livelihood is fishery, and the rest of the barangays are focused on farming.

ISSUES/PROBLEMS BEING FACED


1. A case of cannibalism was reported at Narra, Palawan in July 16, 2004.
2. A proposed 15-megawatt coal-fired power plant near the wildlife sanctuary at
Rasa Island further threatens the last habitat of the Philippine Cockatoo.
3. Frequent Power Interruptions
4. Deforestation due to mining.
5. Local government instability: 20-month suspension of Mayor Gerandy Danao
