To whom it may concern:

It is truly my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Perla Dominguez. Perla is such a

special young woman, poised to take on this next step in her academic future. Warmhearted,

compassionate, and ambitious, she is truly a future leader for her community.

Perla joined Upward Bound summer of 2020, and as a new student she has actively participated in

all our program curriculum. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Upward Bound is a

TRIO Program designed to provide educational and personal support services that increase the high

school and college graduation rates of its participants. CSUDH Upward Bound Serves students

from 5 high schools that are from low-income families in which neither parent has earned a

bachelor’s degree.

Perla was civically engaged as a student poll worker for the 2020 election, held a position on a

robotics team, participated in a coding camp and continued to excel academically by maintaining a

3.3 GPA. In Upward Bound Perla has grown as a scholar and as a dedicated member of her

community.

As we entered unforeseen circumstances due to the global pandemic schools shifted to digital

learning. While many students encountered challenges, Perla embraced the digital shift and took the

summer as an opportunity to continue with the Upward Bound program while completing an

internship with Kaiser Permanente’s Summer Youth Virtual Program. She is an example of a

resilient, self-disciplined, and hardworking person.

Without a doubt Perla is a great asset in any educational or professional space as she is the type of

student who uses her acquired skills and knowledge to support her peers and community members.

It is with absolutely no reservations that I recommend Perla to take part in this internship

opportunity.

Thank you for your consideration,

Katherine Martinez
