activist. He was born on June 16, 1971 in East Harlem, district of Manhattan, New York. His birth name was Lesane Parish Crooks, but in 1972, his name was changed to Tupac Amaru Shakur in honor of the revolutionary Inca Túpac Amaru II. Shakur’s song Spoke of freedom and criticism of the government and the police. He became involved in the rivalry between the East an West coast of the United States. He was the victim of robbery and five shots but survived. He was later sentenced to prison for sexual assault but was innocent and was released eight months later. He recorded three albums with the Death Row Studio because the helped him when he was in prison. On September 7, 1996, he was shot three times in Las Vegas and died six days later.
