There is some evidence of the early
civilization in India, some are bronze and copper statuettes and steatite seals which shows some vigor and concern for surface texture as constantly characterized in their arts. The major theme of Indian art seems to begin emerging as early as the Harappan period, about 2500 B.C. Around 500 BC, the conversion to Buddhism of a large part of the population of India brought new artistic themes.
Periods of Indian Arts
✓ Classical Period – develops into the Shiva the Cosmic-dancer represented by four-armed figure. ✓ Islamic Ascendancy or Transitional Period – it is the period of evolution from Vedism into Hinduism or Brahmanish. ✓ Mogul Period – enrichment of Indian culture in painting and architecture. Diwali- is celebrated by Hindus in India and all around the world in October or November. - It is the Hindu New Year and is either a 3 day or 5 days holiday depending on where you come from.
