UNIT I Introduction to Qualitative Research

Every day, you are faced with many challenges that require possible and immediate solutions. For instance,
if your house is relatively far from your school and the traffic is unpredictable, you might be thinking of the
fastest and cheapest way to go to school. You may also be wondering what causes the daily traffic jam in
your area and what is the best way to address the problem or at least minimize it.

One way to solve problems like this is via conducting research because this will help you arrive at the logical
and practical answers and solutions. This unit will explain the fundamentals of one of the methods of
research: qualitative research. The steps to be followed when conducting qualitative research are discussed
thoroughly in the modules in this unit. Module 1 introduces the nature and importance of research.
