Our hands-on inspection teams always include an engineer with design experience. This
allows us to be able to recommend practical solutions that solve the problem during the
job before we leave the site. Our collective knowledge of design, analysis, operation and
inspection of boilers and HRSGs means our team discovers new findings that help current
and future clients be aware of problems and maintenance trends.

Inspection Services
HRST inspectors are engineers practiced in HRSG operation and design. By performing more than
2,400 HRSG inspections since 2008 and now servicing more than 250 annually, we have amassed a
remarkable collection of shared experience and know-how. Based off of experience and insights
gained during an inspection, we can gather information about a problem area that gives us the
ability to offer and supply solutions. We don’t inform you of a problem―we tell you why it occurs,
and then we offer recommendations on action to take, and how to avoid the problem in the future.
Sometimes the solution is a quick sketch for the maintenance foreman during the inspection.
Occasionally the solution results from analysis and engineering after the inspection, where we can
detail and fabricate a customized design, and help the client install it during their next outage.

Clients value our willingness to work independently and our ability to find and solve problems. This
allows them more time to focus on other parts of the power plant during a busy maintenance
outage.

Firing Duct Drone Inspection

HRST can inspect the higher levels of firing ducts, catalysts, tube faces, and several other hard to
reach areas with the help of a drone. Drone inspections offer a cost-effective alternative to
scaffolding and allow for frequent upper elevation condition assessments. Results can eliminate
uncertainty and be used for informed decision-making and future budgeting.

Borescope Inspection
Borescope inspection on the waterside is an important element of HRSG condition assessment and
problems are commonly identified. If needed, we can help locate and design effective borescope
inspection ports specific to your HRSG. Our borescope inspection is integrated with our HRSG
inspection scope and report to maximize our value on site.

Commissioning & Warranty Inspection

We perform inspections before the commercial operation begins (either pre- or post-fire) and during
the warranty period following the start of commercial operation. These inspections have resulted in
some non-conformance reports and warranty claims to prevent what otherwise would have become
future problems and the responsibility of the owner.

HRST Performance Thieves™ Inspection

We offer a speedy inspection where we focus on items that adversely affect thermal efficiency and
performance. Based on the results, we may propose additional measures to identify the cost and
benefit of potential solutions. That way you can make a sound decision whether or not to recapture
MW being lost to Performance Thieves.

Online Inspection
Our online inspections identify problems that are not easily detected when the plant is offline. They
also identify critical issues early for better repair planning. Online inspections include a thermal
imaging survey with a FLIR camera. This allows quick identification of casing hotspots and gas leaks,
as well as being able to evaluate the condition of expansion joints and penetration seals.
Operational checks during the inspection include duct burner flame stability, steam drum level
consistency, desuperheaters, pipe support load indicators and condensate preheating. In addition,
inspectors are pay close attention for unusual noises and vibration may hint at gas-side problems.
No shutdown is needed and as there is no use of confined spaces, one HRST inspector alone can
cover an entire plant.

Remote Inspection
A remote inspection is helpful for certain international clients who seek our guidance but may be
reluctant to bear the travel costs, or in locations where our inspectors do not travel due to security
concerns.
