Financial benchmarking of Tata Motors Ltd. (TML)
Goals & Objectives:-
- To judge the earning capacity, financial health and operating efficiency of a business
organization.
- To use accounting and financial management analysis in helping the management to know the
financial position and operating efficiency of an enterprise by analyzing the liquidity,
profitability, activity, solvency valuation and gearing figures.
- To use the analysis for business planning, forecasting and locating the weak spots in the
business even though the overall performance may be quite good.
- To ascertain the survival and growth of any business unit based on the competitive strengths.
Procedure:-
1. Analyze the current financial performance of TML based on liquidity, profitability, activity,
solvency, valuation and gearing ratios.

2. Analyze the Balanced Scorecard implementation of TML for a prospective turnaround of


business from the viewpoint of –
 Financial perspective
 Internal business process perspective
 Learning and growth perspective
 Customer perspective

3. Analyze the TOWS prospective strategic business approach for reducing threats, taking
advantage of opportunities, exploiting strengths and mitigating weakness.

4. Analyze TML from viewpoint of Michael Porter’s Five Force theory to ascertain the competitive
advantage.

5. Give a short commentary on comparative business analysis of TML and Mahindra & Mahindra
Ltd. from valuation point of view.

Outcome:-
At the end of the assignment, the student
a. Should be able to significantly demonstrate the value addition to TML business.
b. Should be able to demonstrate a robust strategy and set realistic goals for TML.
c. Should be able to determine the synergies of TML created from the value addition by strongly
demonstrating the application of economic value added concept.
d. Should be able to unlock the values of business resources and capabilities of TML through
implementation of newer technology and innovation (e.g. Electric Vehicle).
