Structure and function

4 Structure and function

This chapter describes the basic structure and function of the device.

4.1 Brief description

From the mains supply voltage, the power supply generates a direct voltage of 12 V to
supply intrinsically safe circuits.
The connection to the supply voltage is established by screwing the device into a hous-
ing with flameproof enclosure "d" type of protection. The mains line is connected to ter-
minals in this housing.

Installation and initial start-up

6 Installation and initial start-up

This chapter describes how to install the device and start it up for the first time.

6.1 Safety information

The device must be screwed into a threaded borehole of a housing with flameproof
enclosure 'd' type of explosion protection. The assembly of both devices must be tested
and certified separately.
If it is possible for lines to come into contact with metal parts, they must either be mech-
anically protected or fixed in place to protect against damage. All wires must be connec-
ted using suitable terminals or isolated according to the setup provisions.
The device can be interconnected with other electrical equipment as a certified or non-
certified intrinsically safe electrical system according to EN 60079-25.
For use in a certified, intrinsically safe electrical system, the system description of the
certificate issued for this system is binding.
For use in a non-certified, intrinsically safe electrical system, the system design must
provide a system description according to which the interconnection must take place.

6.2 Requirements on the site of installation

NOTICE
Environmental influences can limit the conditions for use of
the device!
Select the mounting site in such a way that the device is protec
ted and still easily accessible.
The device is to be protected especially against the following:
Dripping and flooding water
- Impermissible temperatures
- Electromagnetic stray radiation
- Shocks and vibrations
- Mechanical damage

NOTICE
Distances to obstacles that are too short can limit the con-
5313212134_SVI-12-1.3-250d_MAN_a_2012-03-21_en-GB

nection or operation of the device or make it impossible!

Doors, covers and maintenance openings must always be abled
to be opened without being hindered.
Safety devices must be freely accessible and operable without
being hindered at any time.
Comply with minimum distances:
- 300 mm to device connections (cable glands or bushings)
- 500 mm to operating and control elements

6.4 Mounting
The current supply is screwed into a device with flameproof enclosure "d" type of protec-
tion.

DANGER
During work on the device, there is a danger to life due to
electrical voltage!
1) De-energise the device.

2) Secure the machine to prevent it being turned on again.

3) Make sure it is de-energised before starting work.

The screw connection must be secured against accidental loosening. This can be guar-
anteed by using a suitable thread locking glue or by securing the screw connection with
a locknut.
Mounting a device with a threaded flange to a housing with flameproof enclosure
"d" type of protection using thread locking glue
An appropriate threaded borehole in the housing is free.
A new O-ring is on the screw neck.
A suitable thread locking glue is available.
1) Remove the dummy plug from the housing.
2) Store the dummy plug for later disassembly.
3) Insert the device connecting line through the open threaded borehole into the hous-
ing.
4) Apply thread locking glue to the thread of the screw neck.
5) Put the screw neck of the device into place and carefully screw it in by hand to the
end.
Make sure that the mains connecting line is not damaged.
6) Tighten the device to the spanner side of the screw neck so that the O-ring securely
seals.
5313212134_SVI-12-1.3-250d_MAN_a_2012-03-21_en-GB

Servicing and trouble-shooting

7 Servicing and trouble-shooting

This chapter provides information on the care and servicing of the devices, as well as on
the elimination of device malfunctions.

7.1 Safety information

In case of dysfunction the device has to be exchanged as a whole.
Within the scope of troubleshooting defective parts may be exchanged only for genuine
parts of the manufacturer. By use of parts of other manufacturers or unauthorized repair
of defective parts the manufacturer's liability expires.

7.2 Servicing
Cleaning ■ Blow away the dust deposits with dry compressed air.
■ Wipe off caking with a moist cloth.
■ Wipe moisture with a dry cloth.
Maintenance interval The periods between two maintenance procedures depend on the environmental and
operating conditions at the installation site. Ambient conditions at the limit values and
shocks lead to a shortening of the maintenance interval. The following are considered to
be limits:

Humidity 80 - 100% humidity

Temperature < 20% or > 80% of the permissible temperature range
Vibration e.g. attachment to crushers or conveyors

The following maintenance plan must be observed. If defects are discovered during
inspection, corresponding maintenance must be performed.

Repair It is forbidden to repair the device on site. A damaged or malfunctioning device must be
sent to an authorised workshop for repairs.
Repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer itself or by a workshop instructed
and monitored by the manufacturer.

7.3 Trouble-shooting
The illuminated indicator does not light up.
1) Check whether the device is supplied with voltage.
Switch on the supply voltage if pertinent.
2) Check whether a short-circuit is present at the output of the device.

23 / 36
SVI 12/1.3-250d
Servicing and trouble-shooting

Remove the line from the output of the device, if necessary.

If the illuminated indicator still does not light up, a defect is present and the device
must be exchanged for a functional one.

1) Disconnect the wires of the connecting line.

2) Remove the fixing mechanism of the connecting line.
3) Disconnect the connecting line for the intrinsically safe voltage supply.
4) Dismantle the device.

Disconnecting the connecting line for the intrinsically safe supply voltage
The cable gland is mounted.
1) Dismantle the twist lock of the cable gland.
2) Unscrew the insertion fitting of the cable gland.
3) Remove the pressure rings and sealing ring from the flange.
4) Cut the line end down to the required length.
5) One after the other, push the insertion fitting, the first pressure ring, the sealing ring,
and the second pressure ring over the end of the line.
6) Insert the line into the device through the flange.
7) Screw in the insertion fitting until it is hand-tight.
8) Lay the wires of the line according to the connection diagram.
9) Tighten the insertion fitting.
10) Mount the twist lock.
11) Check the tension relief of the connecting line.
12) Coil the excess line length and fixate it with cable ties.
The line is connected.
Dismantling a device with threaded flange secured by thread locking glue
The device is ready for dismantling.
1) Apply the spanner to the spanner flat of the screw neck in such a way that it lies on
the full surface and cannot slip.

NOTICE
Due to a sudden load during the loosening of the screw
connection, the device can be damaged!
Loosen the screw connection with the most evenly applied force
possible and never hit the spanner with an object.

2) Completely unscrew the threaded flange from the threaded borehole.

3) Hold the device firmly and carefully remove the connecting line from the connection
compartment through the threaded borehole.
4) Put aside the device and roll up the connecting line.
5) Protect the device with transport packaging.
