Position paper on the Rizal Retraction

The implications of the Spanish regime's dictatorship in recent days have led the people to
pave their way for independence, thereby going against the Spanish government to accomplish
what we want as a countryman of our Philippines. The democracy of the Philippines is written in
our blood, created by the martyrs who fought and lost their lives. Jose Rizal is regarded as one of
the strong foundations executed by the Spanish government under the allegation of his rebellion
through his writings at that time, resulting in him being executed on December 30 1896, as a result
of which debates were formulated as to whether they are retracted or not. At that time, many of his

m
iconic and valuable works such as El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere succeeded in revealing

er as
the wrongdoings of both the Church and the Spanish government, making it a significant piece for

co
eH w
the church to remove all the charges thrown at them if that withdrawal was somehow withdrawn.

o.
One significant person who seemed to be allegedly convincing Rizal to remove the information he
rs e
ou urc
wrote. But it was believed to be forged due to the incredibility of the retraction letters made,
furthermore the lack of papers addressing the marriage of Rizal, etc. Not being able to show his
o

family resulted in him not being given a proper burial. This retraction is only disapproved data to
aC s

allow the church to take advantage of Rizal's credibility.

Several pieces of evidence were brought up arguing that the retraction is fake, the forged document
ed d

is first in the list. The testimony of one person is essential to this because he is the only one who
ar stu

was "able" to persuade Rizal to make a retraction letter, but the supposed retraction letter made by
Rizal is not shown to the public because of various circumstances, so the one who said that Rizal
is

made it does not even remember how many copies were made, making it a forged document, so
Th

the church does not guarantee its v He stated in Ricardo Pascual 's novel, entitled Rizal Beyond
the Grave, that the documents were falsified because of the inconsistencies on each copy that
appeared during that period, so not having the ability as a witness to identify which one was the
sh

original simply means that Rizal did not retract. Therefore, another evidence that Rizal did not
retract is the testimony of the man named Antonio Abad, in which, according to him, the church
or rather the friars employed a man named Roman Roque to replicate the letters of retraction, and
because of the deep religious conviction of the church during that period, not giving a proper burial

to a specific time during that time. Finally, the professor of his retraction was not shown to his
relatives, thereby strongly indicating that these records were disproved.

According to the records, Rizal retracted the following facts that Rizal retracted because of the
reason that he wanted a legal marriage contract with his lover, Bracken, but was unable to do so
because he had to retract to the church to be able to do so, to fight this, before the time of Rizal 's
death, they state that both married Father Balaguer, but no certificate was issued. Second, there is
evidence as to why Rizal retracted while imprisoned is the lost sanity, but Rizal cannot be that
kind of person in our thoughts because he endured many struggles to accomplish what his goals
were, so he is prepared to sacrifice his life for our own country.

m
er as
The alleged retraction of Rizal led the friars to believe that they had prevailed against him. Since

co
eH w
it took years for the letter to be shown to the public, its value is nowhere close to what we believed

o.
was true. We may infer that Rizal's retraction is only a fake piece of evidence for the church to
rs e
clear its name against Rizal 's accusations. In addition to this, Rizal now looks like a hero who is
ou urc
known for his unyielding love for our country, rendering us resistant to the genuinely retracted
concept of Rizal, so he still holds on to his goals until he is executed.
