First conditional

It is a structure to describe or talk about possibilities in the future.


They have a 90% of possibilities to happen

In order to use FIRST CONDITIONAL, there are two clauses


1. If + present simple = the conditional clause
2. Will + present simple = the result clause

If we ignore environment, many spices will disappear.


If people do not adopt solutions now, nature will not be saved
If we do not save water, it will dry

Many spices will disappear if we ignore environment


Nature will not be saved if people do not adopt solutions now
Water will dry if we do not save it

Wh- questions
What will happen if we do not save water?
What will happen if we ignore environment?
Second conditional

It is a structure to describe or talk about imaginary situations or situations that are not
probably to happen.

In order to use SECOND CONDITIONAL, there are two clauses


1. If + past simple = the conditional clause
2. Would + present simple = the result clause

If I had the money, I would buy an island.


If you were rich, you would travel around the world.
NOTE: in second conditional the verb to “be” is always used in WERE form.

If I had the money, I would buy an island.


If you were rich, you would travel around the world.

I would buy an island if I had the money


you would travel around the world if you were rich
