FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS

REGISTRATION AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Storytelling is an effective teaching and learning activity to help improve


the standard of English among pupils.

1.2 The Storytelling Activity / Competition will be carried out at school, district
/ division, state and national levels.

2. OBJECTIVES

2.1 To enhance pupils’ confidence in using English.

2.2 To give pupils the opportunity to use English in an interesting, authentic


and creative manner.

2.3 To enhance and improve listening and speaking skills.

2.4 To instill pupils’ interest in reading and writing in English.

3. TARGET GROUP

3.1 The competition is open to all school in the district of Keningau.

3.2 Only ONE contestant will represent their respective school at district
level.

3.3 Participant must be a Malaysian and of the age 10 – 12 years old


(primary 4, 5 and 6)

4. COMPETITION ENTRY

4.1. Entry to this competition is open from the 30th April 2021 - 7th May 2021.
Entry submission after this date will not be entertained.

5. REGISTRATION AND VIDEO SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

5.1. Only online registration and submission is accepted.

5.2. Registration is open from the 10th May 2021 – 14th May 2021. Registration
or submission after this date will not be entertained.

5.3. Registration portal will be made available by the 10th May 2021 via

5.4. Schools are to submit:


A. Details of contestant.
B. Video recording of story presentation
C. Script of prepared story
D. Details of registration fee and payment
E. Borang Kebenaran Ibubapa / Penjaga

5.5. DETAILS OF CONTESTANT:

5.5.1. Details and a passport photo of contestant is required upon registration.


Passport photo is for the purpose of screening the authenticity of
contestant.
5.5.2. Passport photo of contestant in uniform with school badge must be
uploaded upon registration.
5.5.3. Label photo attachment as: [school code.name of school.name of
contestant]
example: XBA8888.SK TRUSMADI.JANE DOE

5.6. VIDEO RECORDING AND SUBMISSION:

5.6.1. Video recording of the storytelling presentation is required upon


registration.
5.6.2. Video format (.mp4, .wmv, .mov, .flv) is accepted.
5.6.3. Video quality must be of satisfactory level, clear and audible.
5.6.4. Only ONE video recording is accepted.
5.6.5. Only raw video recording is allowed. Video recording content must not
be edited in any way. All submitted video recording will be screened
before the actual competition and any edited videos shall be
disqualified.
5.6.6. Storytelling animation is not allowed.
5.6.7. Link to video recording of the storytelling presentation is not accepted.
5.6.8. Contestant in the video recording must be of the same person as per
attached passport photo and an actual student attending his/her stated
school. Any falsification of identity or contestant shall be disqualified.
5.6.9. Contestant shall not reveal their name, school nor wear his/her school
badge in the video recording.
5.6.10. Duration of video recording must be 4 to 5 minutes. Panel will only
review 4-5 minutes of the storytelling presentation. Marks will be
deducted thereafter.
5.6.11. Please refer to Rules and Regulations section for more information on
storytelling presentation guidelines.
5.6.12. Label video attachment as: [school code.name of school.name of
contestant]

5.7. SCRIPT OF PREPARED STORY

5.7.1 A script of the prepared story must be uploaded upon registration.


5.7.1 Script must in PDF format.
5.7.1 Script must be of the same title and content of the prepared story.
5.7.1 Name and school must not be revealed in the script.
5.7.1 Label script attachment as: [school code.name of school.name of
contestant]
example: XBA8888.SK TRUSMADI.JANE DOE

5.8. REGISTRATION FEE

5.8.1. Registration fee is RM30.00 for each participant.


5.8.2. Check or cash payment is accepted.
5.8.3. State mode of payment and details in the registration form and attach
proof of payment (if any).
5.8.4. Please contact Pn. Jouyah (school clerk) at 087-334907 for payment.

5.9 BORANG KEBENARAN IBUBAPA / PENJAGA

5.9.1 Please attach Borang Kebenaran Ibubapa / Penjaga upon registration.


RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. The Online Storytelling Competition Peringkat Daerah Keningau 2021 now has
only one (1) section.

Section 1 : Prepared - any story


Section 2 : Impromptu - CANCELLED

2. Contestants are to observe the following rules:

2.1. Stories presented can be authentic, adapted or originally written.

2.2. Stories presented must not touch on sensitive issues such as race,
religion, stereotyping, politics, etc.

2.3. Stories must be thematically educational.

2.4. Contestants are only allowed to use the stand microphone provided to
ensure minimal movement.

2.5. Props, backdrops and sound effects are not allowed. Any use of these
will allow for disqualification by the judges.

2.6. Time allocated to present the story is 4 to 5 minutes. The bell will be
rung only once at the 5th minute. Marks will be deducted thereafter.

3. INFRINGEMENT

3.1. A maximum of 10 marks will be deducted if a contestant:

• touches on sensitive issues such as race, religion, politics, etc. – 2 marks


• presents a story below the stipulated time – 2 marks for every minute
• presents a story above the stipulated time – 2 marks for every minute
• uses props, backdrops and electronically-aided sound effects – 2 marks
• overdramatizing – 2 marks

3.2 A contestant will be disqualified if:

• he / she reads or refers to notes / reading materials.


• he / she is prompted by another person.
4 ADJUDICATION

4.1 A panel of at least 3 or 5 judges will be appointed.


4.2 Points will be allocated according to the scoresheet.
4.3 The contestant with the majority of votes will be declared the winner.
4.4 The decision of the judges is final.
4.5 Individual marks will not be disclosed.

5 PRIZES

5.1 Stand medal and certificate of achievement will be awarded to the


winners:

1st prize : Stand medal and certificate of achievement


2nd prize : Stand medal and certificate of achievement
3rd prize : Stand medal and certificate of achievement
4th prize : Certificate of achievement
5th prize : Certificate of achievement

5.2 Certificate of participation will be awarded to all participant.


5.3 Winners will be announced on the same day of the competition.
5.4 Only chaperones (guru pengiring) are required to be present at:

*Bilik Mesyuarat Pegalan, Sektor Pembelajaran,


Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Keningau

to receive the prizes on behalf of winners for a prize giving ceremony


(adhering with Covid-19 SOP). Chaperones will be contacted.

5.5 Schools are then required to take photo of winners with their prizes.

5.6 Please adhere to the SOP set by MKN at all times when presenting prizes
to winners.

2. Adjudication:

2.1 Language Proficiency

Marks will be awarded based on the following:

i. correct, clear and accurate pronunciation


ii. clear enunciation and intonation
iii. correct use of grammar
iv. appropriate and effective choice of words (diction)
v. fluency

2.2 Presentation / Delivery

Marks will be awarded based on the following:

i. voice modulation
ii. voice projection & clarity

2.3 Theme / Storyline

Marks will be awarded based on the following:

i. interest and appeal


ii. significance and impact of meaning
iii. coherence
iv. integrated values

2.4 Costume

Marks will be awarded based on the following:


i. suitability
ii. creativity
