This is a truly wholesome dog story, I hope it's worth the read and makes you smile.

Many years ago, our German Shorthaired Pointer, Major, was about a year old, and we were looking
after my brother's elderly rough collie named Archie, who is no longer wirh us. While Major slept
inside, Archie preferred to stay outside at night, he hated being indoors (we don't live in a cold
climate).
We lived on a property that was fenced and gated, but had a long laneway leading away from the
house. Archie spent a lot of his later years with us, so he was familiar with the property but, as I said,
he was getting very old and his vision was deteriorating.
One night, our Major was inside and started barking at the back glass door. Just one single bark,
and then silence for about 10 seconds or so, and then he'd bark again. It was out of character for
him to bark at all, so we looked out and then eventually opened the back door.
We heard Archie bark, from down the laneway, once. And Major would bark back, once. Gradually
Archie's barks got louder as he got closer.
Archie had obviously lost his way, and their bark exchange was Archie asking for some help, and
Major showing him the way home
