1. Unit/Chapter Goal/s:
Lesson 5 : Convert customary units of weight
Lesson 7 : Convert customary units of capacity
Students will be able to understand how to use measurement conversions customary units of
weight, estimate and measure capacity, and convert customary units of capacity.
2. Learning Objectives:
Cognitive: Students will be able to explain how to convert units of weight and capacity by using
customary units of weight and customary units of capacity.
Affective: Students will be able to practice converting customary units of weight and customary units of
capacity.
Psychomotor: Students will be able to identify the customary units of capacity and customary units of
weight.
3. Materials: (books, white board, A4 sheet, bread, tomatoes and pictures of buffalo)
Intro/Anticipatory Set: (Review their previous knowledge about customary units of capacity and
customary units of weight)
4. Procedure:
o Ask what students know about customary units of capacity and customary units of weight
o Write down customary units of capacity and customary units of weight on board
o Show bread and ask how they will measure the bread measurement by using weight or
capacity
o Let them to estimate the weight of the bread, tomatoes and buffalo
o Show water bottle
o Ask how they will measure the water and liquids, capacity or weight
o Read example of weight word problem
o Ask how will they change pound to ounces
o Explain how to change pound to ounce
o Write two capacity problem
o Explain how to change pints to cups, gallons to pints and gallons to quarts
o Let them to practice exercises
o Summarize what students learn about customary units of capacity and customary units of
weight
