KAPPAN ARTICLE

Hi Allyson,
Thank you for submitting an article for the KAPPAN. It was interesting to read of the various theories
related to teaching and learning. I often regret that retirement has cut off opportunities to expand my
knowledge of what's being studied. But other interests have taken over.
Please look at this excerpt and let me know if it should be revised. The last word doesn't make
sense to me, and I wondered if it is written as you intended.
Many of our school districts have a similarly narrow view of curriculum and usually figure that
choosing textbooks or canned programs as the extent. As a result, the lesson plans, materials,
assignments, and assessments that teachers devise are often strung along with no true vision, and
this is of no fault to the teachers.
Love,
Sue

Ms. Pelchat,
Thank you for reviewing my submission! I think what I was trying to say was:
Many of our school districts have a similarly narrow view of curriculum and usually figure that choosing textbooks or canned
programs is the extent of what curriculum means.
I am not sure if that is too wordy? But I hope it clarifies what I was trying to convey.
Thank you, Allyson. I'll add those few words at the end of the sentence.
Love,
Sue

Hello Susan,
I submitted my article for the KAPPAN magazine last year. This was the last correspondence that I had about it, and I just
wanted to see if the article had been rejected. I had not seen it published in any of the recent issues, so I just wanted to
check on the fate of my article.
Dear Allyson,
I will confess that we have had severe file storage issues and that just about everything we had
placed in folders for the future has disappeared. I'm new to Google, but I hear that that should never
have happened.
I remember reading your article but don't remember why our editor did not choose it for printing. If
you'd like to send it again, we'll consider it again. I'm sorry that we just don't have time to let
everyone know the fate of their submissions. We are all volunteers trying to meet deadlines for
publication. I'm sure you understand.
Please submit your article again on the website. There's less of a chance of MY losing it if it arrives
through that conduit.
Love, Sue
