Identity Poem

Lauren Hammers
I am from Sunday morning pancakes, from the smell of my mom cooking bacon to awake
my brother and I.
I am from a loud, dog hair infested, love filled, sibling bickering, hug giving, constantly
joking household.
I am from the prickly pear cacti that make odd shapes on the horizon of the desert in front
of the most vibrant and beautiful sunsets.
I am from a broken family that made me stronger in more ways than I could ever
imagine.
I am from two separate households being raised by four different parents that gave me
sufficient amounts of love, support, and guidance.
I am from a house in which Sunday Night Football is a lifestyle and Dodger Baseball is
the only time where everyone is on the same page.
I am from a household that cherishes the small things in life like family bonding and
I am from homemade cheeseburgers on summer Saturday nights as the Red Hot Chilli
Peppers play pool side.
I am from a household in which home videos and family photos are the most prized
possessions.
I am from a father that taught me to value individuality and acceptance above all.
I am from a mother that taught me to give everything my all and showed me how to be an
amazing maternal figure.
I am from a nomadic lifestyle in which traveling and experiencing is valued much more
than materialistic items.
I am from Chandler, Arizona, the only place that gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling
inside when I drive through it after being away for some time.
