JAMAICA M. SALEM
PA 297 – F

I. Introduction
This paper aims to present information about our clan, which contains family background, tables, graphs, and solutions for
Mean, Median, Mode, Midrange, Range, Variance, and Standard Variation. I included a family tree where my relatives from
my father side and mother side is shown. Table and graphs are also encompassed to further explain the total number of
population by gender and age. The number of years in school as well as the birth order of each household members are
presented and analyzed through tree map, pie chart, and bar chart.
II. Methodology
Our clan is from the Municipality of Maranta, Province of Lanao del Sur and Municipality of Munai, Province of Lanao del
Norte, whereas my great great grand parents came from. I collected data through interviewing my grand mother about the
background of our family, how my father met my mother, how they were raised, and how they became family. With that, I was
able to obtain data about our family and presented it through table and charts that contain figures. I used the Microsoft Excel
and Microsoft Word to elaborate the data and utilized statistical tool such as mean, median, range, midrange, variance, and
standard deviation.
III. Data Presentation
A. Family Background
My father, Mr. Salem Tominaman Guro is the great great grandchild of late Sultan Guro of Inudaran, Marantao. Sultan Guro has six
(6) children whereas my Great Grandfather, Hadji Sobair Guro is one of his first grandchild. Mr. Hadji Sobair Guro married my
grandmother, Mrs. Linang Rascal Basher whose family is from Bacong, Marantao. They had twelve (12) children and my father, Mr.
Salem Guro is the second child.
On the other hand, my mother, Mrs. Anisah Radia Mutia is the great granddaughter of Macadaag Mutia, the former mayor of the
Municipality of Munai. To give a brief background of our beloved “ingud” (origin), Munai has govern by Sultanate before and still
adopting the rules and regulations of Sultanate. Elevation and mountains surround the Center of Munai and its atmosphere is
considered an attraction for the Local Tourist. There are two (2) huge natural springs jointly together going street to Pagayawan Falls
in Municipality of Bacolod.
2

The people in Munai are still adopting the traditional government that is eventually govern by Supreme Sultanates. They are in charge
for Social Life of the people and Tribal Conflict. Datu Salaginto Mawarao is the Patriarch of Munai's Sultanate (Scion of Butig and
Maguindanao, descendant from Saripada Macaalang the first Iranaon Datu who ruled Maguindanao) married to Bai Labiya sa Munai
and Lupung (Ancestors of Munai in Mala a Bayabao, Lanao Del Sur).
Four (4) "Moriatao" Sultanates alternate succession to the throne “Sultan sa Munai”: Sultan Labia, Sultan Obinay, Sultan Riyona,
Sultan Balowa, Potre Motiya who was married to Pipis a Datu (Their Biological Sister, and she is not part of succession to the Throne
because she is female). The six (6) "Moriatao" Datus of Munai are Sultan Labia, Sultan Obinay, Sultan Riyona, Sultan Balowa, and
Sultan Tomarompong (From the Municipality of Ramain who married the daughter of Mutia long-long time ago).
While the children (Moriatao) of Potre Motiya who was married to Pipis a Datu are Bandara, Tangong, Arambun, Ansabo sa Sapad,
Andonkay sa Dimayo, and Mainad sa Uyaan who was married to Ampaso sa Binidayan begot Bai Amba sa Unayan and Munai.
Mutia Family and Lukesadatu Family: the great-great grandfather of these two (2) families are very close relatives in which the father
side blood is Lukesadatu Family and Mother side blood is Mutia Family. These two (2) families are rich in Natural Heritance and also
very close influential to half of the (26) Barangays through the social justice, social economic, politics and social progress in
municipality of Munai because the most of their Elders are very kind and generous and also united. However, all of their relations has
suddenly stop because of the following points by order way back in 1990s: Power or Authority, Boundary of the Land(less than 50
square meters) located in Old Poblacion, which belong to their great-great-great grandfather, Local Politics, Business Project, and
Connection
Munai is one of the Municipalities that suffered during Martial Law in 1972. Almost people of Munai abandoned their home,
livestock, land and they moved to boundary somewhere Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte. Most of the people stay meanwhile to
Barangay Lininding of Munai, a boundary of Municipality of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur. The only remaining people that time of
evacuation process were the Moro (Male and Female including Children) Fighters and one of their Leaders Commander was Former
Lieutenant (Philippine Army) Commander Tagoranao "James Bond" Goldiano Macapaar bin Sabbar, a MNLF Top Commander for
Lanao del Norte. Late Commander James Bond is the sibling of MILF Top Commander Abdullah Goldiano Macapaar bin Sabbar
"Commander Bravo". Moro Rebels from Munai had a fight side-by-side with the Moro Rebels from neighboring Tangkal against
Philippines Constabulary (PC) Army. Majority of people living in Munai are all maranao tribe and they are supporters of MILF and
MNLF. MILF Military Training Camp called Camp Bilal is a big MILF military Camp in Lanao del Norte.

Further, places where people most connected according to traditional history are Municipality of Tangcal, Barangay Punod
(Gadungan), Municipality of Madalum, Municipality of Piagapo, Municipality of Balo-I, Municipality of Poona Piagapo,
Municipality of Kauswagan, and Barangay Mintring, Municipality of Maigo.

The presented bar chart shows that majority

of the total population is student (consists of
5 pupils), followed by government
employees which implies that there are
employed in the family, and 1 housewife
which pertains to my mother. You may also
notice that there is “N/A” part because I
have a 3-year-old brother, which
automatically, will not belong to any sub-
category.

IV. Solving
A. Age:
Mean
x̄ = 52 + 43 + 22 + 20 + 19 + 15 + 9 + 7 + 2 = 189 = 21
9 9

Median:

i = n + 1 = 9 + 1 = 10 = 5 Note: Therefore, 19 is the median

2 2 2
7

Mode: None since 2 and 5 have appeared twice

Midrange:

L + H = 2 + 52 = 54 =

2 2 2

Range:
H – L = 52 – 2 = 50

Variance:

x x-x̄ ( x-x̄)2

43 22 441
22 1 441
20 -1 361
19 -2 289
15 -6 81
9 -12 9
7 -14 49
2 -19 289
TOTAL 0 2,401

S2 = Σ (x-x̄)2 = 2,401 = 2,401 = 300.12 = 301

n–1 9–1 8

Standard Deviation
