These bulb-shaped lamps are equipped with hundreds of

individual light-emitting diodes (leds), all of which are fixed on

a metal heat-dissipating element. LED corn lamps are 80%

more efficient than metal halide lamps, high-pressure sodium

lamps or incandescent lamps. For those who want to use

So what are LED corn lamps?

Led Corn lights are assembled with light-emitting diodes (led)

on a metal structure. They are called “corn lights” because the

yellow light-emitting diodes look like corn kernels attached to

the cob. Corncob lights need to provide a lot of light when using
led lights, while led lights need a lot of diodes. The diodes

(sometimes hundreds) are mounted on a metal “core” with as

much surface area as possible to keep the diodes cool.

What kind of fixture will accept LED corn lamps?

Many screw sockets will accept an LED corn light, but you

have to make sure you have the correct one. There are corn

lamps for E40, E27 (Edison), mogul (E39) and medium (E26)

bases, and more lamps are being developed every day.

How do I install LED corn bulbs?

It’s as easy as screwing in a light bulb! Just make sure the corn

lamp’s dimensions will fit into the luminaire that you are

trying to light up.

What should I look for in good corn lamps?

Cooling

A good corn lamp should use an aluminum structure to

dissipate heat. The aluminum structure has a large surface

area to allow heat to dissipate. Some LED corn lights have

fans. Although this sounds fancy, they are problematic and

inexpensive methods to make corn lights. If the fan is not

blocked by insects or dust before this, the fan motor will go out

long before the LED fades. The image on the left shows a corn

lamp from the manufacturer 3BL. The complex structure of

6063 aluminum has a better heat dissipation effect than a fan.

LED Quality

There is a range of quality of LED chips. The cheaper ones will

have low Color Rendering Index(CRI). Look for LEDs made by

a reputable brand.
The protective layer

In order to keep LEDs with good performance for a period of

time, the surface of the diodes should be covered with a layer

of transparent plastic to protect them from dust and insects.

This will prevent the light quality from decreasing over time.

What kinds of bulbs can I replace with corn lamps?

As long as there is a matching light bulb. The most important

thing is to check whether your corn lamp fits your lamp and

has a cover. You can check the product size at first.

Can I mount high wattage corn lamps horizontally?

These lights do get heavier as the wattage increases,

sometimes too heavy for the screw sockets they are installed in.

If you install the bulbs vertically (up or down), they can work

normally. However, if your socket is level, you may need to

install a thin wire to support the bulb and reduce the pressure

on the socket.
