MACHINE OPERATION
Base-film is intermittently drawn from a reel stock and fed to the blister forming station.
Base film unwind is motorized. PVC film is heated by platen heaters. Blisters are
formed, in the case of thermoforming, with the help of compressed air. In the case of
alu-alu, blisters are formed in cold condition with solely the mechanical action of plugs
and preheaters are automatically switched off.
In the feeding zone, the product is filled into the blister cavities. The complete feeder
unit continually moves left and right in such a way that actual product feeding takes
place uniformly throughout the machine cycle. The product feeding is either direct by
gravity or controlled by pneumatic escapement whose product release timing can be set
on the MMI.
Then, the web enters the sealing unit along with the lidding material. The lid foil reel is
also mounted on a mandrel which is motorized, and a dancing arm switches the motor
on or off to deliver additional foil, as and when needed. Lid foil passes through a batch
code printer if installed, which will print batch information during each index.
Lidding material is pulled into the sealing station, where it is sealed with the base-web.
The sealed web is cooled immediately on exit from the sealing station by a cooling
plate.
The filled, sealed and cooled web is gripped and pulled through the set index value by a
gripper indexing mechanism. The index value is settable on the MMI.
The sealed web then moves over a dancer arm, into the high speed section of the
machine, where it is independently advanced intermittently by a punch index roller.
Embossing, perforation and punching are carried out and the packs are thus separated
from the web. Trim is cut and dropped into the trim chute. Packs are picked up by a
pack-pickup assembly, transported up to the outfeed conveyor or chute if they are good,
or are dropped earlier into a reject chute if found.
Other features include splice detection, batch code printer, print mark scanning and
correction. The machine is equipped with print registration control, and the correction is
done on the base film advance during indexing to maintain print mark registration.
The machine can be linked to the next machine downstream, the connection between
the two being made by means of a conveyor.
