Prologue
Akihabara also called Akiba is a district in central Tokyo that is known as the home to Otaku
culture, the Japanese slang for people who are deeply interested in anime/manga and its kind.
Everything related to anime can be found in Akihabara including anime specialty shops, manga
and light novel book stores, specialty game shops,Anime character Café, random street
cosplayers, big anime billboards, and a whole lot more.
History
Akihabahara, prior to being known as the anime capital of Japan, was once a famous district for
electronic needs. It was once known as Akihabara Electric Town where you can shop for all
kinds of electronic appliances, gadgets, and parts for relatively lower prices.
Several household electronics stores have been established here since the 1960s, which has
earned Akihabara the nickname "Electric City" because the majority of these stores sell washing
machines and refrigerators.
During the 1980s, this "Electric City" was further developed gradually to become the Akihabara
we know today,it became an important market for electronic, games and manga/anime
products that were so popular right now.
Fun fact.
It might come as a surprise to many, but Akihabara was not all that fancy back in the past. In
fact,Akihabara was a thriving black market during World War II.
Because During World War II, there was a surge in the demand for radio and its parts.
