CHAMELEONPAINTER Height Safety PPE Inspection Checklist

The Fall Arrest Equipment Inspections must only be done by a COMPETENT PERSON who has completed
appropriate training to inspect equipment.

All equipment inspections must be recorded on a 6 monthly minimum.

All equipment condemned and taken out of service must be destroyed immediately. Other equipment
that requires repair must have an out of service tag placed on the item.

Harness Refer AS 1891.4 – 2009
Webbing Cuts and tears
(take a section of the webbing and form
an arch approximately 150mm between
your hands – this will highlight any
broken fibres, stitches, cuts etc)
AS 1891.1 and serial number displayed
Manufactures name
Year of Manufacture
Abrasion damage especially where there is contact with
hardware
Excessive stretching
Damage due to contact with heat, corrosives or solvents (eg.
marker pen on load bearing webbing components)
Deterioration due to rotting, mildew or UV exposure
Chemical attack indicated by discolouration
Stitching Broken, cut or worn threads due to contact with heat,
corrosives, solvents or mildew
Damage or weakening of threads due to contact with heat,
corrosives, solvents or mildew.
Does the harness smell like harness and not of fuels, paint
grease
D-rings Excessive vertical movement of the straight portion of the D-
ring at its attachment point to the harness, so that the
corners between the straight and curved sections of the D
become completely exposed
Cracks, especially at the intersection of the straight and
curved
Distortion or other physical damage of the D-ring
Sharp edges or burrs
Excessive loss of cross-section due to wear
Buckles and adjusters Distortion or other physical damage
Cracks and forging laps where applicable
Bent tongues
Open rollers

Rope (fibre) Refer AS 4142.1 - 1993


Ordinary usage in the rope will cause Cuts
fluffing in the outer yarns. This is normal
and not serious. With extreme usage
outer yarns become severed and
flattened. The rope should then be
condemned.
Abrasion or fraying
Damage due to contact with heat (fusion), corrosive, solvents
Dirt or grease impregnation
Deterioration due to UV light or mildew
Reductions in diameter and elongation of lay
Length of rope displayed on tag
For laid or plaited rope bunch or twist to Internal wear, internal grit and dirt

Check by applying a curve of constant Cuts on sheath
radius all the way along the rope
