Recommendation

There are several steps to resolve the potential mistakes that happened during the
experiment 's implementation. Next, make sure that the right proportion of the mixture of ethanol
and water is 27 litres of water and 3 litres of ethanol. Thus, 30 litres of ethanol and water are
blended together. This is to make sure the outcome is more reliable. Other than that, do not
forget to read the temperature at the given time interval, which is every 5 minutes, to obtain
accurate results. In addition, do not forget to follow the normal practise of cleaning the port when
examining the top and bottom items. With clean tissue, the port should be clean and the dropper
is washed with purified water to prevent contamination that can result. Besides, change the
refractometer knobs correctly to get accurate results, for direct observation and try to prevent
parallax error when taking the reading. Lastly, make sure the specific valve is open and close
correctly, before run the experiment to make sure the experiment run smoothly.
Conclusion

In conclusion, the experiment 's aims were to perform mass balance and energy balance
in the phase of distillation and to compare the experimental result and the software outcome
expected. Based on the results obtained, 1546.88 mol was the molar flow rate at the inlet of the
distillation column. Depending on the mass balance, the top and bottom product flow rates are
277.09 mol of the programme calculations. Microsoft Excel was the programme that was used.
The experimental results were identical to the expected results of the programme, based on the
observations. Thus, this indicates that the programme has proved the experimental results
obtained to be valid. During the experiment, there were few potential errors that could occur.
Inaccurate preparation of solution will affect the mol count for the total of solution which will
makes error in the results after calculations is made. Next, parallax error when taking the reading
of temperature. Refractometer was not fully rinsed when taking the reading of another product at
different times and results in faulty data. The reflux rotameter is not the same and can affect the
process of distillation.
