A hazardous Chemical Register provided by the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for
each chemical need to be checked which is list of hazardous chemicals in a particular
industries, workplace and others. Hence, for those who involved in using, handling and storing
the chemical hazardous need to access by the registers. The registers must be well known with
the new hazardous chemical which is discontinued. The regulation that include duties to
overcome the risk to safety and health. Recently, the duties including must kept up to date the
chemical register and ensuring that prepared off the hazardous chemical registration. Once the
hazardous chemical has been clarify, they must be list in Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Other than
that, it also must be refer to the risk assessment as reference that been done. The aim of
chemical register is as reference to employees that can be know the presence of hazardous
chemical at the workplace and need take the precaution actions. Control measures in
occupational health which is set at the elimination or minimizes of exposure o harmful
substances in the workplace. There are four principles that can be used as control hazards. The
control of risk need to be practicable in order to be effective control. Besides that, in term of
permissible exposure limits that can be used the exposure. Chemical Register enable the user
to upload and keep it the SDS. Then, they also can record the expiry date of SDS and create an
action to overcome the chemical hazardous. Learning the health surveillance required for the
one who handling the chemical, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) need to worn all the time
while handling the chemical. In the SDS, it must always record the chemical classification in
term of CAS number. After that, carry out a risk assessment on the chemical listed in register.

3.0 Discussion

One of an employer's primary duties is to protect its employees against any adverse
effects presented by the use and handling of chemicals under the Occupational Safety and
Health Regulation (Use and Standard of Exposure of Chemicals Hazardous to Health) 2000. An
evaluation must be carried out to analyze all the chemicals used at a place of work. This
assessment is called an Assessment of Chemical Safety Risk (CHRA). The main aim of this
assessment is to identify and evaluate all of the risks involved and their extent of exposure
when treated in laboratories. Other than that, more research is needed to determine the control
measures that the worker or employee is actually practicing.

The type of assessment conducted by CHRA in this practical was the Chemical
Register. The main aim of this review is to provide clarification about what sort of hazardous
chemicals are present in the workplace, and any safety risk information, as well as any
appropriate steps to be undertaken. This practical aim is to gain more knowledge on the
preparation of a laboratory chemical register. The chosen laboratory is LAB AD1, and the total
quantity of chemicals to be tested was 12.

The Chemical Register type is divided into three sections: Section A, Section B, and
Section C. Section A focuses mainly on client information. In the above form it can be seen that
the company name is filled in as UniKL MICET along with its title, telephone number , and email
address. The selected sector code is 23, as it is considered a public service sector within the
business. Meanwhile the industry class is filled in as 93100, as this facility is an educational
operation. Finally, in the company activity, End-User is selected, because UniKL MICET is
considered the final user of the chemicals listed in the form.

Section B is the most critical segment in this type, as all hazardous chemicals that are
used or manufactured are listed here. Second, the name of the workplace in which the
chemicals are used, as well as the number of male and female employees exposed to these
chemicals. For Lab AD 1 the total number of workers is 1 males and 1 females. Most of the
chemicals information is specified in the SDS, such as name, physical shape, type of control
measure and hazard class. There were 5 physical liquid chemicals, sulfuric acid 96%, acetone,
n-hexane , hydrogen peroxide and lead standard solution. These chemicals all require the same

13 | P a g e
control measures, which are ventilation for engineering control, and protective clothing and eye
protection under PPE. Lead standard solution and sulfuric acid 96% both is classified as a
corrosive and eye irritation and sulfuric is under the category of 1A; thus, it is very dangerous if
it is spill on human. While Acetone and n-hexane is classified as very flammable and liquid and
vapor, it is dangerous as it is extreamly flamable. Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizer. It can
intensify combustion and increase the flammable range for chemicals so they ignite more
readily. All of these chemicals have the proper labels which state the class of hazard and the
safety precautions one must take to prevent them.

Next, there were 7 chemical substances of solid form, di-Potassium Hydrogen

Phosphate Anhydrous and di-Sodium Hydrogen Phosphate Anhydrous. Only ammonium
chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, and ascorbic acid based on their respective SDS are
not classified as hazardous substances.. Other 4 solid chemicals have their proper labels which
state the class of hazard and the safety precautions one must take to prevent them. Calcium
Chloride (II) Hydrate is eye irritation category 2a. Nickel (II) Chloride- hexahydrate is very toxic,
dangerous to environment and irritant. Potassium peroxodisulphate is oxidizing, acute toxicity
and cause respiratory sensitization. Sodium acetate can cause serious eye irritation

All these chemicals are used in this laboratory as Raw Materials, and the quantity is
listed as balance, as there are no accurate records of how much these chemicals are used. The
CAS number for chemical substances is used as a special identifier. Each of the chemicals is
specified in the SDS with its own CAS number. All of these chemicals, except for Diethyl ether
and di-Potassium Hydrogen Phosphate Anhydrous, were supplied with SDS in the laboratory.
The technicians will fix this problem quickly as the SDS is useful to provide comprehensive
information about the dangerous chemicals, and what kind of control measures should be
implemented. All chemicals comply with the Law on Naming, Labeling and Labelling, 1997 &
CLASS 2013. According to the act, the chemicals were provided with proper labelling, proper
hazard signs, hazard class, safety precautions and label size. The lab also provided the right
SDS reports, but not for all of the chemicals.

At the end of Section B, is the supplier's name and address. Section C provides the
employer 's information that prepared the chemical register, and who reviews it. In a workplace
it is very important to have a chemical registry to help identify the hazardous chemicals present.
Thus safety measures may be introduced, such as offering employee training to know the

14 | P a g e
present risks and the required precautions to be taken. Other than that, the workers must know
how to read the SDS and marks, have the capacity and expertise to use the chemical register,
and know what sort of safety measures to be used in the workplace, including any emergency
and first aid procedures. The control measures to be taken must be based on monitoring
hierarchy, such as engineering control (enclosure, insulation, ventilation, etc.) and PPE
(protective clothing, eye protection, dust mask, etc.). After these procedures the threat posed by
the chemicals could be reduced.
