Magic Three- When the author lists three important words in a row.

Repetition- repeating a word for emphasis (pedal, pedal, pedal) Every Saturday

Stretching out words-criiick-craaaaack-criiick-craaaack- emphasizing the sound of the rocker

Word choice- denotes a time period (Frigidaire), how characters talked

Teacher begins by starting to complete chart too show the author’s craft. Groups work together to find
another example of author’s craft.

You do :

Students read The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant and complete the chart identifying the author’s
craft.
