Writing: Problem and Solution essay (cont.)

Cách 1
A.Introduction 
- Paraphrase question (viết lại đề bài)
- Thesis statement (câu trả lời cho câu hỏi ở đề bài)
- Outline sentence (say what you will discuss in the rest of the essay – không bắt buộc)
B.Problem (s) (có thể ghép thành 1 đoạn văn hoặc chia thành 2 đoạn)
*** Ghép:
- State the problem(s) (topic sentence: câu chủ đề: On the one hand, the problem (kể tên ra) is
caused mainly by … kể tên 2 nguyên nhân ra)
- State the first cause (kể tên nguyên nhân số 1)
+ Explain what cause is (giải thích tại sao nó lại gây ra vấn đề)
+ What is/are the result(s) of this problem (hậu quả của nguyên nhân này)
+ Examples (ví dụ)
- State the second cause (kể tên nguyên nhân 2)
+ Explain what cause is (giải thích tại sao nó lại gây ra vấn đề)
+ What is/are the result(s) of this problem (hậu quả của nguyên nhân này)
+ Examples (ví dụ)
*** chia 2 đoạn:
Đoạn 1 - State the first cause (kể tên nguyên nhân số 1)
+ Explain what cause is (giải thích tại sao nó lại gây ra vấn đề)
+ What is/are the result(s) of this problem (hậu quả của nguyên nhân này)
+ Examples (ví dụ)
Đoạn 2 - State the second cause (kể tên nguyên nhân 2)
+ Explain what cause is (giải thích tại sao nó lại gây ra vấn đề)

C. Solution(s) (có thể ghép hoặc chia làm 2 đoạn như phần solutions)
- State the solution(s): kể tên giải pháp
- Explain how solutions will solve problems:giải thích nó giúp giải quyết nguyên nhân tương ứng
như thế nào
- Examples: lấy ví dụ
D. Conclusion 
- Summary of main points in paragraphs 2 and 3
- Prediction or recommendation

Cách 2:
A. Introduction

- State the problem 1 (topic sentence) (kể tên nguyên nhân số 1)
- Explain what problem is (giải thích nguyên nhân này là gì, vì sao nó gây ra vấn đề)
- Give a specific example (đưa vi dụ cụ thể minh hoạ cho phần giải thích trên)
- State the solution (kể tên giải pháp cho nguyên nhân 1)
- Result of the solution (kết quả khi áp dụng giải pháp này)
- Examples (lấy ví dụ nếu có thể)
C. Problem 2 + Solution 2
- As above (làm như trên)
D. Conclusion 
- Summary of main points in paragraphs 2 and 3
- Prediction or recommendation

Cách viết đoạn văn problem-solution:

Đảm bảo:
- cấu trúc rõ ràng, đầy đủ các yếu tố: (Topic sentence, supporting sentences, concluding
sentence), các câu/ý cần được link với nhau bằng từ/cụm từ/cấu trúc nối
- Phát triển ý hợp lý, logic: ý chính được nêu trong topic sentence phải được support ở các
supporting sentences (giải thích, ví dụ...)

Một số tips:
- Khi trình bày, giới thiệu 1 ý: đưa ra các ideas trái chiều về ý này để thể hiện người viết có nhìn
nhận vấn đề này từ nhiều góc độ khác nhau. Dùng các từ nối hoặc cấu trúc thể hiện sự trái
ngược (Vd: although, however, but, nonetheless...)
VD: Although junk food is convenient and affordable, excessive consumption of this food can
lead to serious health problems.

Viết kết luận:

Nội dung cần viết:
- Mở đầu kết luận bằng 1 cụm từ thể hiện kết luận: In conclusion, To conclude, To summarize,
In summary, All in all ...
- Câu 1: viết lại thesis statement trong mở bài (câu trả lời cho câu hỏi ở đề bài) bằng lời khác
- Câu 2: tóm tắt lại ý chính (tên các problems và solutions) đã trình bày trong thân bài
- Câu 3: comment, opinion. Học thuộc 1 trong các câu sau:
Failing to do anything to solve the problem can only lead to worse problems in the future.
Failing to try to resolve the problem is no an option, as it can only lead to more difficulties
further down the line.
We cannot shirk our responsibility to solve this problem, else it will worsen.
It is our responsibility to solve this problem, and we must accept that responsibility if the
problem is not to get worse.
Failure to solve this problem will result in things getting worse/in worse difficulties later.
Ví dụ:
In conclusion, the obesity rate among young people has increased rapidly due to many reasons.
(cụm giới thiệu) (praphrase lại thesis statement)
The major causes are unhealthy diets and a lack of physical activities, which can be overcome
(Tóm tắt ý chính trong thân bài)
by a balance lifestyle. Failing to do anything to solve the problem can only lead to worse
problems in the future.
