TURBOCHARGER HEAT SHIELDS P/N 28790

New heat shields are available that have been in-
creased in thickness. A larger radii has also been added P/N 28339
in the corners to reduce failure in the field. The new
design will not crack or fail during normal operation. All P/N 28346
VHP Series Four engines built after October 7, 2002, P/N 211953C
(RIGHT BANK)
use the new heat shields.
P/N 211953B
Refer to Figure 5.20-46 for new heat shields (shown (LEFT BANK)
installed). The right bank heat shield is P/N 211953C
and the left bank is P/N 211953B.

The integrity of the heat shields is very important. Be

sure all shields are in place before engine is put into
operation.

NOTE: Longer capscrews, P/N 28790 (3/8 x 7/8 in.,

quantity of four) and P/N 28332 (3/8 x 1-1/4 in. , quantity
of two) are required to install the new heat shields. When
installing the capscrews apply high temperature anti--
seize and torque to 24 ft-lb (212 N×m). Because of the
extreme heat, the existing stainless steel lock washers
and flat washers should be used when installing the new
heat shield. If attaching hardware is lost or damaged, be
sure to replace with stainless steel parts. Figure 5.20-46. Turbocharger Heat Shields
