localities this celebration
usually moves to the end of
July. The celebration is usually
nocturnal so that the star
encounter can be watched.

celebrate this day is to write
wishes, sometimes as poems,
on small strips of paper knowed

branches of bamboo trees,
sometimes along with another

Later, the bamboo and

decorations are usually floated
on river beds or burned after
the festival, at midnight or the
next day, if that day does not
rain, the wishes will be fulfilled,
since the star lovers will have
been able to meet and be
happy, granting their wishes to
all who write them in the
tanzaku. But if it rains that day,
they will not fulfill the wishes.
