Vietnam War
· Fear- Many people waited to get married after the war because of the fear that
their husband wouldn’t come back.

· Sending a soldier to Vietnam is essentially sending him off to the firing squad.
vietnam has homefield advantage
·
Media - The Vietnam War was the first war to be televised. This brought twhe war into
the living rooms of America for the first time ever. In addition the media censored out a
lot of information about the war, which brainwashed the American people. The unborn
living/living dead are these Americans asleep and oblivious about what was happening
in Vietnam. When they say, “Bullet strikes the helmets head”, it is referring to the
soldiers who were conscious of what was going on in the War.
· Tragedy - lyrics refer to a movie cliché, where a soldier dies in the arms of
another soldier. This dramatizes that tragedy of death in war, with the “holder” facing
the death of the soldier he is “nestling in his hollow shoulder”. The “you” (the person
with the shoulder) is face the horrible-ness of the death of one of his fighting partners,
and ultimately has to “make a grave” for him, the final end..
· He raises his voice louder, and louder for the audience to get the message that
people should take action to end the war.
