To Whom It May Concern:

It is with pleasure that I am submitting this recommendation in support of Ms. Katelyn Ericson. I have enjoyed
Katelyn as a student and ensemble member at Susquehanna University during the past two and a half years and
believe she has a promising future as an educator. Ms. Ericson exhibits a strong desire to work with youth as a
respected teacher leader.

Katelyn builds meaningful relationships with her peers and therefore encourages an easy sense of belonging with
any group of people. Katelyn strives to meet new challenges and successfully accomplish goals. Her passion for
education and likeable personality provide the foundation for a successful teaching career.

Ms. Ericson’s respectful approach with others sets up a learning environment where all are welcome. Perhaps
Katelyn’s greatest strength lies in her ability to connect with people. She has a desire to help others and looks for
ways to diffuse conflict whenever possible. Others appreciate Katelyn’s ability to stay focused though she will
always be the first to laugh at herself when appropriate.

Katelyn understands the need for purposeful instruction that leads to greater student learning. She recognizes that
meeting students where they are allows her to better guide them to success. Ms. Ericson is a strong vocalist and
percussionist who possesses advanced musical knowledge. Her desire to continue learning with and from her
students supports a classroom environment where all may grow in their confidence and ability. Katelyn creates
meaningful and joyful experiences in the choral music classroom.

Ms. Ericson is organized, efficient and viewed as a leader by her peers. As a student teacher, Katelyn learned the
value of an orderly classroom and held students to high expectations. During that time, her classroom management
skills greatly improved and Katelyn worked to bring out the best in her students every day. Her kindhearted
approach combined with a positive attitude will serve her well in future endeavors. Students will know she cares
about helping them achieve their personal best and this is an admirable quality in educational leaders. A gesture of
gratitude was presented to Katelyn on her final day of student teaching, demonstrating how much her students
appreciated all her efforts during those fourteen weeks.

Katelyn has tremendous potential for a successful career in music education. Her passion for helping others,
positive attitude and ability to connect with people from all walks of life make her a great candidate for a job in
music education. I support Katelyn in her quest to secure a teaching position in your school and believe she would
be a wonderful addition to your staff and school community.

Sincerely,

Amy K. Voorhees, D.M.A.
