child’s comprehension skills at different learning levels.

sentences. Show comprehension of a 1+ stories / books. Your child needs to work independently for you to see the outcome so you can
given story through Titles: see which level he/she can attain.
The level that they stop at, is the level they are able to do so far. DO NOT force
written activities. • Hide and Seek him/her to continue on to the next level BUT challenge him/her while guiding
• Look at me on. Of course at this stage the setting of the activities can give him/her an idea
(2) of what to do but you have to help him/her with the instructions.

Materials (1)- Hide and Seek

Produce in writing at least • exercise book • Review the story:- Using own words your child retells
5 given sight words in • pencils the story out loud.
isolation through • printouts • Reading of the story from the book. 2X (child reads
dictation. alone.)
• Familiarise your child with the assigned written
activities. As him/her views the work, ask him/her
what is supposed to be done. (Do a brief explanation
to confirm instructions.)-
• See attachment No. 1 on page 1 and 2. (as there are
pictures needed, pages 1 and 2 will need to be
printed. Don’t forget to get your child to write own
name and surname and then the date.)
• Correct the work and give your child feedback on
how he/she did. Reward with a little sticker for a
satisfactory result and do corrections next to the
incorrect work if there’s any.

(2)- Look at me!

• Same procedures as the above for story “Hide and
Seek”.
• See attachment No. 2 on page 3 and 4.
Attachement No. 3: Extra/ supplementary works on page 5
to 9.
• These can be used after your child has completed the
assigned work for each story book.
There are some children who will be able to tackle the extra
work and some will not be able to. DO NOT FORCE your
child to attempt activities that he/she cannot yet cope with.

P.S:
• It is always good to do more research on how to
further challenge your child to develop more of
his/her reading ability.
• You can use the examples of given written activities
with other more challenging story books.
• Do not forget to record weaknesses to forward the
teacher later.
