Reflection #4

Throughout the course of the semester, I observed the students in the classroom. One

particular student I observed was Manmeet. Manmeet is in my first grade zoom classroom and I

have been observing him in breakout rooms. I noticed that he sometimes disrupts the class by

speaking out of turn. However, I can tell he is very engaged in the lesson because he asks

questions and expands on his answers. In breakout rooms, the students are given activities that

they have to complete with a teachers aid. While Manmeet was completing the activity, he asked

if he could make up a sentence to go along with it. He had a sentence ready, but continued to talk

afterwards and got off track. After Manmeet completed the activity, he asked for a more

challenging activity to try next. I feel like Manmeet is an auditory learner because he likes to talk

out his strategies. He also had an easier time understanding spoken instructions over written

ones. Manmeet is a hard worker but he can get off-task easily.

Although Manmeet sometimes gets distracted, he listens to the teacher and wants to work

hard to please her. If Manmeet is talkative during class, the teacher calls on him to mute his

microphone. Manmeet then immediately turns off his microphone and continues to work. I feel

like he is engaged in his work but has trouble working with the pace of the class.

I think one of the reasons that he stood out to me was because he was always looking for ways to

expand his knowledge. Manmeet frequently asked for “harder” questions to challenge himself.

He also came up with creative sentences and examples for some activities. If Manmeet was my

student, I could incorporate “Challenge Questions” in the activities. These activities would be

optional for the whole class, but it also challenges students like Manmeet. I think it’s important

to have inclusive activities for the whole classroom.
